Hi

We don't really want our users having access to our member list.

We've disabled the permission but the 'Members' button still appears for General users. What's more, it still works!

Any way to disable this ...... maybe remove the button?

I don't see any problems and it is working as expected in my quick test just now.

Can I respectfully ask you to double check the permission sets - that would be all of the ones you are using that may be linked to user groups who should not see the button. If they are definitely all turned off then also go to the forum admin > toolbox > housekeeping and run toe task to 'Reset the Auths Cache'. This should happen automatically  but there is no harm in running it again just to make sure.

Remember too that forum admins will continue to see the members button and list.

If it still shows for logged in members then the next question would be are you using any sort of WP cacheing plugin?

Permissions are correct 'Can views the members list' is unchecked.

We don't have caching software although I believe the hosting company use Nginx.

Otherwise, we use Wordfence and a handful of other plugins.

Having trouble posting replies to your forum by the way?

Clearing the Auths cache has had no effect.

you said permissions are correct... you checked for all permissions sets?  and verified that permission set is actually the one assigned to the forums?

does it happen for guests?  can we get a link to site and if needed, some temp credentials?

Checked everything - seems like it should all be fine.

Guests not logged in see no top bar at all.

Would you take a look? I'll let you have admin status login details via PM if you'd let me know if that's OK?

Thanks

Yes - of course:

Please PM credentials to both myself, and to 'Mr Papa'. Please include in the PM a link to your site, a link to this thread and brief reminder of the problem. And one of us will take a look for you.

In this case you will need to make the account an SP Admin so that we can check out the forum admin pages.

Specific forum level type permissions are tied to a forum. Some permissions are more global. Viewing members List for example, is not forum specific. So if any of the permissions that can be applied to a user are on/off then they will be able to use the allowed option.

In the case of the user you gave me in your PM - their permission profile shows that they can use the forum named "Forum Notices" - attached to the permission set named "Can't Start a Topic".

And the Can't Start a Topic permission allows the members list to be viewed.

Well, thanks for the explanation although the logic makes absolutely no sense at all to me.
I guess we'll just have to work around the problem.
Does seem more than a little crazy though!

I would really like to know what it is you find 'crazy'...? perhaps I didn't explain it properly.

All you have to do is edit the "Can't start a topic" permission and turn off the permission to view the members list... Why is that  crazy? I thought that was what you wanted to happen...
