We have a SimplePress site with distinct user groups. We do not want a user in group A to be able to message a member in group B (unless the user is also a member of group B). Currently in the messaging interface, users can message each other across group memberships.
We could set the site so that the messaging system only works via the "PM" link on a post, but that's inconvenient for users.
Is there a way to restrict messaging in this manner?
Thanks!
Currently I am afraid not. It was not originally envisioned that way. Although we may be able to put a filter on the AutoComplete tool which would make it doable... We will need to discuss that here to see if it is feasible. The main worry would be slowing down the return results which needs to be as fast as possible of course.
Let us discuss that here...

Thank you for your prompt reply.
Is there a way to disable the autocomplete? While that would reduce the functionality, as long as the user had the member's correct username, the message would still get through, correct?
For confidentiality reasons, we need to be able to strongly separate the group members. Our members are in the mental health field.
Thanks!
working on updates to the plugin to support admins messaging a usergroup and for limiting users to pm only within their usergroups...
no ETA, but shouldnt be too long... its 95% coded up - just needs some testing and final tweaks...
