Minor image inserting issue under Safari and Google Chrome

Again, came up as a broken image, then pulled on second try. This is pronounced on Safari under Mac (have to save then edit then save to pull) but seems to work more instantly on Google Chrome on PC, at least that's the best way I can explain it.

I really do not know what to say.

In will ask around to see if anyone else is having this issue but I am rather sure that it is unique. And if I can't replicate under any circumstances then I am not sure how I have anything to fix - especially as the TinyMCE component is core WordPress.

Dopes asnyone have any ideas?

I am doing one more test, this time right from my wife's Mac using Safari 7.0. Image link is:

Posting now via TinyMCE:

So, it's obviously working here. I did the same test also on our forum. And the image shows there as well. But, it didn't show right away. When I posted the picture into the editor there was nothing there, the post was just blank. When I saved the post the picture showed up. But, in some unexplained cases the picture remains blank even after saving. But editing and re-saving finally pulls it. I can't pinpoint this behavior, it seems random. And that's what's confusing several of our students. That's what I am seeing on my end here in this forum and on our forum. Is this something you can reproduce as well, at least the blank image at first insert via Safari on Mac?

No - as I have said - it works fine for me.

There is only one thought I have at the moment. When a post is saved, if it has an image tag and the image attributes do not include a width, then the code performs a getimagesize() call to the image server so that the width attribute can be added. If this fails then the 'image not found' message gets displayed instead. As this happens on your forum, might this be something to do with your server now allowing outbound access to other servers to determine this information? Not sure how but it is the only scenario I can come up with at the moment that seems to make any sense.

That looks like it could be heading in the right direction. But no, our server allows outbound access just fine.

Also, I get the same issue here on Simple:Press using Safari on Mac so it's not confined to just our forum.

But your suggestion made me google this a bit more. I found several issues posted by developers concerning Chrome and Safari with getimagesize() or related. This one's a bit older hence not sure if it's still relevant: http://stackoverflow.com/quest.....ri-problem. Any thoughts? Or is this totally unrelated? Just trying to narrow this down somehow.

The one you linked to there is a JavaScript issue and I am talking strictly php code here. Do you have any other examples you can provide links for because my search didn't really throw anything up.

I am leaving this as a Safari bug on Mac, unresolvable. I think we're simply seeing this because a) over 50% of our 730+ users use a Mac and b) we post homework assignments for our students that require linking to multiple images as we c) do not allow uploading images to our server. Most other forums probably simply use the uploader rather than TinyMCE's image linking.

In the past we required students to post from Flickr and we'll be going back to that to avoid confusion because the only way to have image linking in the forum work reliably in Safari on Mac for certain users is to click into any field after pasting the image URL, which populates the image sizes and all is well - but that's just not going to stick.

Thanks a lot for all the feedback though.
