I'm using the TinyMCE editor. I want to upload an image and PDF to post and I don't see an way to choose one on my computer. Which I thought I could do with the old version. All I get an opportunity to specify a "File URL" which is not very useful.

I found a post where someone was complaining about the same or a similar problem. The advice was to make sure the SP Upload plugin was installed and activated.  Is the File Uploader using Plupload the same one?  Because that's what I have installed and activated.

Thanks.

Yes - that's the uploader. So you have activated it? Do you not get an upload button beneath the editor window?

Why would the upload button be underneath the editor window where it is so hard to find? And wouldn't it be easier understand if it said something like "Add photo/video" instead of "Upload Attachments?" And why is there also another set of buttons for inserting image/media buttons on the TinyMCE menu?

I like Simple:Press because it integrates so well with Wordpress.  But it has an UN-intuitive user interface that often discourages my visitors from using it.  Especially those who don't have strong computer skills, and there are still many, many people like that.

There was a very strong push recently to convince the developers of Vbulletin to make so it integrates with WP.  They are supposedly working very hard on it and now I'm almost sure to switch when it's ready.  I already know of a company that will completely handle the migration for only $75.

VBulletin is not as easy to use as it could be.  But it's interface is very logical and and it's in widespread use.  Also, Vbulletin and the other popular forums all work pretty much the same way.  So once you've learned how to use one of them you've probably learned how to use them all.

SP requires my users to learn how to deal with quirks that they shouldn't have to.  And that makes my job harder because I have to answer questions I shouldn't have to. My forums also aren't as interesting because they don't contain as many images as they could. And images and video are very important on a how-to web site.

Sorry for the rant.

You do make a good point on the 'Upload Attachments' button. I changed mine to say something like 'Insert Picture or Upload Attachment".

My users actually like that and find it easier. In the past I don't know how many times I have had to tell/teach people that they need to click on the little 'tree' icon to upload a picture then select the file, upload, etc...

Regarding the VB look and feel I bet someone could create a theme very similar for Simple:Press now that it can be pretty much customized to look/feel like just about anything.

Might be an interesting project. Someone could create a VB look alike and sell it for half the price. smile
