Came up with a quick solution. Artisteer is a bomb in mobile responsive design. Downloaded an updated V4 application but ho help. It makes a good desktop theme, in my humble opinion.

I installed the free WpTouch mobile theme plugin, then activated sp's mobile theme. Walla.. Works like a charm!

good news.  mobile touch is able to make some themes responsive but not all...
