Maybe I'm missing something somewhere.

I have a few moderators, I'd like them to be able to move a user to a different group (or add them to a new group) but while I've set the appropriate permissions for those moderators they can't edit a person's profile (where they can add them to groups) from the front end, the only way they would be able to do it is via the WP dashboard which I don't want them poking around in.

When I click on a profile from the front end of the forums I get an "edit user profile" link however my mods do not.

Options I have selected in the admin settings for my moderators are:

  • Manage Permissons
  • Manage Profiles
  • Manage Users
  • Manage User Groups

Also another issue related to this. I have 3 moderators (4 including myself). when I try and set options under Admins in the dashboard none of the options for the 3rd moderator stick. I select the boxes, click the Update Admin Capabilities button and when the page refreshes after presumably saving the settings, the settings for that last person don't stick.

only admins can edit other folks profiles...  I guess we could consider a new permission for editing profiles... those capabilities you refer to are wp admin capabilities... they dont really impact the front end...

not sure I understand the setting of admin caps either... you can change your own or others, just not the one individual?

Yeah,  just one individual. I tried adding an extra moderator to see if it was somehow related to the # of mods I had but it didn't make a difference, I then added another moderator that had a higher member ID number so that it came AFTER the one I was having trouble with, once the extra mod was in the admin list I was then able to make the changes the the problem one stick.

It's not JUST that one user though .. for one of the other mods I couldn't get just one particular option to stick.. it's kinda funky all round.

And yes, please do allow mods to edit profiles, or more to the point, at least be able to add/delete from user groups - that's the most important thing. Allows my mods to put someone on moderation or ban easily.

banning someone is an admin function... so will be a capability not a permission...

if they had manage usergroups, they could move them around now...  admin of course, not front end...

We "ban" people by adding them to a user group that gives them no access - have been doing it that way for years.
