Hello guys,

A couple of forum members pointed out that after clicking the "Most recent topic with unread posts" icon and the popup window appears, some rows have the "new" button, and some do not.

I am confused, and before repling to my members i wanted to get your view. Should this button really appear at all in the "Most recent topic with unread posts" window?

My impression was that it only should appear in the "Unread and recently updated topics" below the forums. But i could be wrong as usual. laugh

If so, i supose the button only appear when there are more than one new post in the topic?

interesting question... never quite noticed that... actually, I would have expected the popup unread list to match the unread list at the bottom of the group view... but it doesnt match that either though the 'new' button ones do match... thinking a bit more, understand your expectation that it would just be the ones with the new buttons...

I think the code for the popup and the unread on group view is the same which is why I thought they would match...

I am going to have to throw this over to Andy to answer the difference since he is the new post guru and wrote/problem-with-post-edit-buttonandles all that stuff.... he should be back later tonight... and I will make a not for him too...

Sounds like Steve has clearly forgotten the answer to this :)

With 5.1.2 we changed the way new posts were handled and made then 'sticky' across sessions. In other words, the a users list of unread posts is no longer wiped out when the logout or their session times out.

This is a good thing and has been wanted by just about everyone for a iong time.

However that 'new' button can not operate in quite the same way and IS a pointer to new posts since the user last visited. This is because we do not keep lists of posts - which can become quickly large and unwieldy on a busy forum - but lists the topics that have had new posts. So for the posts themselves we can only go on the posting date and the only realikstic date we can compare that with is when the user last logged out.

In other words, as things stand, you can't have both! But it is a lot better than it used to be.
