Support Forum
I did a search and couldn't find an answer so I am posting this question. I am encountering order problems when moving multiple posts.
Scenario: I wanted to move 5 posts.
- I created a new topic
- Added the sequence of the 5 posts to move to the new topic created separated by commas
- Made the move
The problem I am encountering is that the moved posts ended up in the topic BEFORE my original post.
Questions:
Why?
Anyway to reorder these?
Anyway to avoid this in the future?
Thanks so much for your time in helping with this.
What you are seeing is the natural sort order of posts within a topic. They are sorted by the post ID - which is exactly the same as sorting them by the date they were created. Hence you new post appears after the moved posts. Which is the way it will always be.
What you could do - if you want your new post to be the first in the topic - is pin it from the forum tools menu.

Thanks so much for your prompt reply. I will probably try the pinning of the original post to get it back to being the first but I am still a little confused and maybe I wasn't so clear in my original post. I actually start a new topic. So that posting is ID1. Then I go to another topic and move 3 posts to where I have the 1st post. But the previous number one post now becomes number 4. Is that normal? Is seems like it should have stayed ID 1 and the 3 three moved posts should become 2,3 and 4. Am I missing something? And most times this is what actually happens but recently when moved the get added before the other existing posts in the topic.
Thanks again for your help.
The numbers you are referring to there are not the post IDs. They are simply the numerical sequence of an individual topic. The post IDs in this respect are those stored in the database and are auto-incremented by 1 each time a post is made - regardless of it's parent topic. Hope that explains it.
