Support Forum
Just created a multisite. Set it up as /sitename as opposed to using sub-domains. My problem is that once the new site is added, users can no longer login to the forum. I have turned off all other plug ins in WordPress to make sure that this isn't the cause. When I try to register since it shows me as a guest, it says that I'm already registered. Even sows me as a online. Now I know that WordPress handles the login, but somewhere, this path broke when I add the new site. Is there a config file in SP that I can re-establish this connection? Or are Multisites not recommended. Oh.. as a note. The Multisite is only two sites deep and the forum is only on the primary domain. The point is to keep this separate from the rest of the site, but to have users logged in site wide. There will be a Buddypress install on the second site. But I did turn this off to test the SP login. It's just pretty broke.
Thanks in advance.
We have many multisite users bit sadly, I personally am no expert (I have never managed to install a test site for some unknown reason!). So I will need to ask @mr-papa fro some assistance here. I can not comment on your proposed structure either I am afraid., I have never been sure what does and does not work on MS.
However - the simple question, I think, is - when you login to the site does WP recognise you as logged in? If it does then you are, quite simply, logged in. SP simple acts on the status that WordPress reports.
So if you are logged in to the WP site but the forum is not showing you as logged in - are you using any caching plugin perhaps? Or am I misunderstanding something...?

Wordpress site does in fact, recognize me as registered. Even shows me as "online" in the Forum indicator on the bottom, but the profile pic show me as guest. When i try to login in, it just goes in a loop, with no errors, and when trying to register, says that I already am.
I have also seen other post regarding the use of a caching plugin maybe causing the problem. Not using one here. All plugins are deactivated except for Simple-Press till i can get this resolved.
And yes.. i know about the Buddy Press plug in. I have it. Fact is, my goal is to keep that completely separate from where the Forum. It's using a different them with different plugins, hence the use of the Multisite. But like I said, right now, it's also deactivated. Only the Forum and the Multisite are active.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
so, non subdomain is the default condition and quite acceptable as a design... The vast majority of our testing is done in this configuration...
So is this login related to the main site or a network site? As a user, you do not get an account with access on more than the site you registered on... the exception here of course is the super admin... users do not carry over from one network site to the other or the main site... there are plugins for multisite that can make users span the network, but its not built in default...
could this be the case? are you using any other plugins specifically for multisite? any caching?
a link might help too...
