Since TwentyTen and TwentyEleven come with WP, I assume Simple:Press should work well with them. If not, can you suggest a theme I should use for testing to confirm if issues I find are theme related or not?
Anyway, I have a couple of minor observations when SP is used in a narrow container:
- There is no padding between the topics drop-down and the search section when it has to wrap.
- The forum title and description text is squashed up against the icon.
- The bbcode buttons don't wrap nicely.
Also, the iForum and Stacked themes don't work well in a narrow environment. A scroll bar is shown instead of making the page larger.
I am having an intermittent problem where the new post and quote buttons stop working. It's only happened twice so far and I haven't been able to work out yet what circumstances led up to the problem, so I understand there is nothng to be done yet. I'm just mentioning it as a data point if you have had any other reports.
Speaking of such things, is there a list of known issues available to the public?
If you are using a narrow theme, you will need to adjust the sp theme... there is no way to account for all possible wp themes...
the issues you mention can be improved by adjusting the column widths in the sp theme...
the wp twentyten and twentyeleven are terrible themes, in my opinion, for full width templates... I even opened a trac ticket against them in wp because its just a waste to have a single column/full width page template that just removes the sidebar and replaces it with empty space - whats the point??? if you remove the sidebar, the theme should allocate the gained space to the post content... but not what the wp devs think...
anyways, both are easily overcome with a 1 line child theme that makes the two wp themes use the full width... happy to provide them if you want...
as to the new post and quote buttons, we have not seen any intermittent behavior like that... usually a js conflict so usually only happens or never happens... would be interested in what you find...
best way to see known issues is via our bug tracker... get the link to under Information in our nav menu...

I won't be using a narrow theme. I was just mentioning my observation, assuming a lot of people will probably be doing initial testing with the default themes.
While typing this reply another issue has shown up. The cursor keys are no longer being sent to the text edit window. If I press up or down, the whole page scrolls, and if I press left or right the focus shifts away from the edit window. I'm using FireFox 8.0. I did see this same thing happen once yesterday when testing the forum on my site.
BTW, I noticed the smileys don't work well with a dark colour scheme. Are there others available? If not, would you like me to modify the existing ones for people who want a dark background?
there was an issue with the text editor window... but it was fixed in latest version of FF (8.0) so was bit puzzled but good to hear...
we do not have any additional smiley sets available... any new ones, can of course be uploaded through the smiley uploader on the smiley components panel... what doesnt work? just the yellow on dark? or it is an edge/transparency issue? if the latter, we would happily take improvements... guess I should look at them on dark backgrounds...
the message is really just saying that admins and mods have been alerted to your post - remember they can specify (like Andy does here) to be notified of all new posts... but I do understand what you are saying... I can open a discussion to see if we still want that message - been around for years...

Okay, I've worked out how to make the cursor key problem show every time.
- Click "Quote"
- Click on a part of the quoted text.
Rather than quote everything you said, I wanted to trim the quote to only the part I was replying to.
As for the smileys, the edges are white. I'm happy to make some new ones, but since some of them are animated, it would be easier if I had the original layered files to start with.
smileys - ya know, was just looking around our svn for the smiley masters and dont see them... will have to let Andy answer on that one tomorrow (long gone for day in UK)... he does most, if not all, our graphics work...
cursor problem... I cannot seem to recreate your issue... oddly, in the quoted text, I cant scroll right or left... nothing happens... but up or down works fine... have you tried with another browser? asking only cause previously this was a FF issue... I will try too...

The only other browser I have installed is IE8. I'm using it for this reply.
The cursor keys work fine, but after editing the quote I can't get out of the quote area, and the delete key doesn't work. Backspace works fine.
After doing to cut and pasting to try and get this text out of the quote block the delete key is now working.
I have just been attempting to play with this on my test site, but it seems I have changed something to prevent the WISIWYG blockquote from working, even after I switched off the bbcode editor.
Edit: Worked that one out. I needed to switch on the rich text editor.
I think, for me, I'll stick to plain text and bbcodes. There often seems to be problems trying to type in rich text editors on web sites.
Getting back to the reason for this thread: do you not think it prudent to make the couple of small changes you mentioned to the supplied SP themes so people who use narrow WP themes will get a better experience? I don't know css, so I might be misunderstanding how this would be done, but if you were to just add some padding around the search box and title text, won't that fix what I'm talking about without any side effects on wide themes?
not to the supplied themes, no... but if you wanted to alter one strictly for narrow widths, that would be awesome... would love to have one in our arsenal for narrow widths...
I dont think its really css... well, yes, but not padding... unfortunately, html sucks for doing column type things... so folks historically have used tables... but they are frowned on... understandably... but if you look at the theme you will see things segmented into column divs... and they have a width... based on the wp theme space, you can adjust the different column widths to get what you want...
