Support Forum
After an update to SP core (which I'm doing right now manually, as described in another post), I get the "Update Simple:Press" in the dashboard, and the "this forum needs to be updated" on the forum pages.
I can update SP in each individual site in the network quite easily and quickly with the button provided. Just takes a few seconds.
But when I try to use the "Network Update" link, it stalls after about the first thousand sites. I can see it working its way through each site, but at a certain point (might be same point each time, but I haven't confirmed that) it stops and won't go any further. We have a very large network (2400+ sites) but only a small fraction (maybe a dozen) of them are using SP right now.
Is something timing out, possibly? Is the network update process designed to have a maximum number of sites that I'm hitting? Or could there be a way to ask the update to happen only on sites where SP is activated, instead of trying to loop through every site on the network?
well, would have to wonder if the php cpu limit is being reached or memory exhausted... there is not, that I am aware of, any number of site limitation in WP - certainly not SP...
unfortunately, we dont know which sites need updating from the network admin... so we have to physically switch to each site, see if installed and update if it is... if not, press on to next network site...
certainly something we can try to improve in the future when we improve our multisite integration... SP was originally designed to work with standard wp when multisite was wpmu... however, some users found that SP worked pretty well as it was... a few minor tweaks and we have kept it working... but of course, its not designed for multisite so there are some limitations... Neither Andy or myself really know or have ever used multisite except me and some occasional testing as our multisite 'expert'.
but on our short list of things to do is give multisite integration and complete overhaul and make it work the way it really should... would be nice to have some multisite users/experts helping but no luck rounding up support yet...
luckily, if you dont have many SP sites, you can visit the admin of each and upgrade... a pain for sure, but work around until we have chance to improve multisite integration...
multisite integration and buddypress (which we also dont currently use or understand) are planned to be the key components of our 5.2 release...

I am far from an expert, but I do have an active and large multisite install of WordPress, and over time, the number of sites on that install using SP are going to grow. And we do use BuddyPress on that install, too.
So I'm happy to help with testing or ideas, at least from the user end, as much as I can be of use.
We're a college, using WordPress for eportfolios for our students, but also for class websites--as a substitute for a learning management system. So SimplePress provide an excellent and much-needed function, giving us discussion boards that are robust and user-friendly. I think that over time, the number of sites using the plugin in our install is going to grow. One professor sees what another's class is doing, and he wants to do the same. So each semester we get more and more sites using SP forums.
For what it's worth, I think real multisite integration would be a great thing (there are a couple of tiny blips, but it really does work pretty well right now with multisite). BuddyPress integration...that's going to be tougher, I think. If you can make it work, it would be great. BuddyPress is getting more and more tightly integrated with bbPress, which, frankly, is FAR inferior to SP. The forums in BuddyPress are a real weak link, and if there could be the quality of SimplePress forums with BuddyPress integration that really worked, that would be very useful and popular. Unfortunately, BuddyPress is a bit of a mess, and very very fussy and fragile.
But there, too, I'm glad to offer testing and help if you need it, as you progress.
right now, your site is the only multisite that we know of exhibiting this behaviour... so likely something local at work, but would like to check it out and see why... if it happens once, it could happen again...
