'New' button for new topics - how to make it appear?

Apologies for the stupid question - I have had this working on a different simple-press site before I had to rebuild it, and now I can't figure out what to do to fix it, and I can't find a relevant thread either.

On this forum when I click my profile and click 'list topics I have posted to' it shows a 'new' flag by the topics that have new responses.  How do I configure that ability on my site?

Ignore this - it seems to have been an AWS caching issue (I'm not using a caching plugin, but AWS virtual machines don't always refresh as fast as they should.  This is working - it's presumably default functionality, but when I couldn't see the 'new' button I thought I was missing a plugin or a configuration setting somewhere.

yeah, caching the forum page or any wp page really for logged in users is risky... thanks for the update...
