Yes, I have a plugin that automatically updates the role within WP. So on the WL side everything runs smoothly, the member is taken out of membership level A and automatically put into membership level B - it's in the user groups on the forum that it doesn't happen.

Does it do it within the confines of the wp api? Normally, when wp changes the role of a user, it fires a hook to notify plugins of such a change. Would you know if that plugin does the work itself? or calls the wp functions? if the wp hook is not getting fired, we have no way of knowing the role change occurred.
