Hi.  We've recently switched from bbPress to Simple:Press.  We have over 4,000 users and it was quite a job to convert.  We're live now, but the existing users are having problems replying and starting topics.  I've checked their user role and permissions and there shouldn't be any reason they can't.  They are classified as Subscribers (for the most part), and new registrants (who are automatically given the role of Subscriber) aren't having any problem.

We've discovered two ways to work around this.

1. Existing users can reset their password, and for some mysterious reason this then allows them their proper permissions (which include replying and starting topics).

2. We can manually change their role from Subscriber to Customer (don't ask me why this works) and they are then free to reply & start topics.

With so many users, neither of these options are ideal and I'm posting here, hoping someone might have a more efficient way to deal with this issue.

glad its working for you...

if the auth cache reset doesnt work, you might try remapping users to their usergroup based on wp role on forum - usergroups - map users to usergroups...

think that would have same effect as the manual steps you did...

I tried remapping and it hung up forever (it warned me to be patient and that it could take awhile)... It took so long though that I actually forgot about it and accidentally closed the tab on that window, so I don't even know for sure if it worked.  I did take a screenshot while it was processing (see attached).

So, now my question is - How can I verify that it actually completed?  And if there isn't a way to do so, would it hurt anything to redo it, just to make sure?

Thank you again for your help!  You're great!

The previous post had the incorrect screenshot.  This is the correct one.  Sorry.

the more users you have the longer it will takes... it has to handle each user individually...

if you close the tab before its done, it will not finish and kill it...

when the yellow box changes from please wait to a success message and then fades away, its done...
