Good for you! And we, of course, would also be grateful to know if this resolved that particular problem.
Right - the file you need is /sp-startup/forum/sp-forum-framework.php
About three quarters of the way down, around line 217 of the file there is this block of code:
I'm also having the (same?) problem as OP. In my case, I've already determined that my theme is not at fault (Mystique 3.1). I switched to Twenty Eleven and Twenty Ten and neither let me use the New Post button or the New Topic button.
When I click on "New Topic" from within a thread, it leads me back up level (though the address still shows: "?new=topic" at the end. When I click on "New Post", it just doesn't do anything. I see in Firefox's Add-on Bar (the one at the bottom that displays a link's or button's target link) that it shows "javascript:void(null)".
I'm going through my WP plugins now to see if any of them are affecting SP5.
I went and individually disabled each plugin, refreshed my forum topic page, and clicked on each button. I even went and deactivated and reactivated Simple Press to no avail. It seems none of my WP plugins or theme is causing this problem. I'm going to try and deactivate the SP plugins to see if any of them are affecting these buttons.
Edit:
The SP Plugins don't seem to be affecting either of those buttons either.
Edit #2:
I found a fix that works for me. I set "Load javascript in footer" to green (on) in Admin > Forums > WP Integration. Now the two buttons, "New Topic" and "New Post" work for me.
There is fix for this here: https://simple-press.com/suppo.....ng/page-2/
Or it will be in the next update.
This should only effect read-only mode

I don't see code fix at all as Papa points out. In fact, quite a few of the posts on that first page are blank or missing everything beyond the first line (like the OP post).
we will get the code fix back up here... we did some db work this morning so investigating to see if related...
