Well sorry but I assumed you would have looked and found those settings - Options > Global Settings.

As far as I was aware we were talking about TML not redirecting as you wanted it to.

Okay, I already have "Block user access to WP admin pages" and "Redirect to user's profile page" checked. I thought you were talking about something else.

This is the new member registration experience in pictures:

  1. They start by clicking the "register" button in the forum.
  2. Required to enter details.
  3. Asked to login. Everything is good so far.
  4. The user is taken to a profile page. This is where they assume they need to set any account related information.
  5. Now the user has to click on the site name to take them out of the profile edit page.
  6. The user is sent to the site home page. Not the best place to go if registering in order to post on the forum.
  7. The user now visits the forum and what's this? Another profile page? All the user wants to do is ask a question.

To my way of thinking steps 4 to 6 should not happen to users registering for a forum. I can see the dilemma for sites where most users are registering to follow the site rather than join the forum in which case the changed behaviour I'm suggesting could be optional, although it seems to me that my suggested procedure would still work fine for site subscribers.

And I know this is confusing for users because I asked 3 programmer friends to help me test the forum. Two of them told me the registration procedure seemed clunky and the third entered details in the WP profile page and did not touch the SP profile page. Admittedly, we are all old blokes, so maybe we're just too slow to take on new challenges. smile

And again, I'd like to point out that I am not arguing for this behaviour because I don't have a solution for myself. I do, but I think this would be an enhancement for SP.

I hope you have at least discussed it amongst yourselves. Unless you need more clarification, I'll drop the subject now.

Here is missing picture 4. I received the following error when I tried to upload all 7 pictures:

HTTP Error.
Upload URL might be wrong or doesn't exist

Does this mean there is a limit of 6 files imposed? If so, I didn't see anything warning me about it.

Edit: Hmm, seems number 4 did work when I tried again, but I still had that error message.

OK so we are back to the beginning.
#4 - what is redirecting the user to the WP profile page? Because it ain't nothing to do with SP.

As far as I understand it, WP is doing that. And this behaviour makes sense for a WP site without a forum.

The above test is with a default installation of WP3.3.1 and SP 5.0.0.7705. Nothing else added.

So the 'block admin' options in global settings should stop this. Or perhaps I should say they do for all our other users - including this site.

The attached picture shows the setting.

The site is http://mike-warren.net/sp/ It's a test site that will just be scrapped when I'm finished. Would you like me to PM you admin access details?

I must be going loopy. rolleys I don't remember checking "Subscriber".
