I didnt ask if ranks were working, I asked if you had auto usergroup assignment for forum ranks enabled...
if you create a user in the wp admin, does it get assigned properly?

Mr Papa,
I don't have any user groups assigned to my forum ranks. They are only related to post count; that is all.
When I create a new user in wp-admin, it gets assigned as subscriber as usual; so yes, new users get assigned properly. However, they still aren't auto assigned membership in sp-admin. This is strange because they should as that is what I have sp-admin set up to do for new users.
I PM'd you login credentials so you can have a look.
OK - I had a look at your site. I created myself as a user using the standard WP add user form and was placed into the SP members group as expected. I then used your registration form and that failed to do so.
The fact that the first attempt worked as expected does show that when the correct WP action hooks are called then all is working as it should.
So - this is still the root of the problem as I have been suggesting all along.
I am not sure if you ever mentioned the wp-members plugin and I do not know what influence that might have on the underlying process but perhaps that is the culprit.
By the way - please do remove my two users.

Yellow,
Thank you for having a look. So, maybe I am missing something here. How can members login using the standard WP registration form? I have wp-members installed and it's the latest among many login/registration plugins that won't allow new registrants to be placed into the members list automatically. I will delete it but before I do, can you tell me how members are going to be able to sign up using the standard wp registration form? If I delete the wp-members plugin, that will mean that I will not be using any registration plugin at all; won't that mean that the register link will disappear from my forum?
I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
I will remove your users as requested.
I have deleted all login/registration plugins. I have checked the box in wp-admin in Setting>General, "anyone can register." I have deleted internet cache and cookies and attempted to register a new user. Still, the issue persists. New users still cannot post due to lack of buttons, which means that they are still not given membership automatically upon registering. Also, the link that is provided in the email sent to new users takes them to a login page that, upon registering, tells them that they "do not have permission to access this page." I fixed this redirect issue with a plugin called, Peter's Login Redirect. As for the missing button and non auto membership status of new users, I'm out of ideas here. I'm hoping you can help me.
I see that your first user, Yellow Swordfish, is a member. Can you remember how you registered that user? I used the standard wp registration form and it didn't fix the issue for me.
sorry, but have been over this several times in other threads... you have w3 total cache incorrectly configured to work with simple press...
andy's new user worked because he created it from the wp admin... you were having problems getting to registration page because you were serving up a bogus, cached page... might have been from when you had registration plugin problems... but I deactivated theme my login (which was not being used) and peters login redirect (which again was doing nothing) and w3 total cache and things were back to normal... registration page comes up and you can register...
I registered a new user 'dummyuser' and it was correctly put in the sp user group as you have set up in the options... so its working fine...
if you reactivate w3 total cache, be sure to configure it right and clean up the caches when you make changes... you had some weird settings in there too... are you really running varnish and an object cache? both require you to install stuff on your server outside of wp... also, you need to tell it to ignore the forum for ALL caching types in use... and keep in mind that in some you told it to ignore /forum/ but you were also displaying the forum as you main site page... so were serving cached pages of the forum on the main page... you cannot cache the main page if its running the forum...
try creating a new user and verify it works for you...

Mr Papa, Yellow Swordfish,
It was W3 all along. Since deactivating that plugin, everything works again. However, pages are much slower to load. I wish I knew how to configure W3 correctly so that I can still activate it without forum conflicts. Any advice here is greatly appreciated.
I configured W3 not to cache the forum on all options asking so, and there were still issues. I unchecked object cache and varnish, and still issues. I unchecked the option to cache the home page, and again, still issues. Just so that I am clear, running W3 AND Simple:Press at the same time without messing with general SP functionality IS a possibility... right?
Thank you both again for your consistently premier customer service.
and only enable caching types you need... ie did you install varnish on your server?? did you install an opcode cache like apc, memcache, etc? dont enable them if they are not on your server...
