I had a users sign up for my SP forum. However, he called me all the way from New York to Seattle to ask me where his email confirmation was so he could post.

All I got in my email was this from Word Press:

New user registration on your website: AorticDissection.com

Username: JoeN
E-mail: jnucci@frontier.com
Registration IP: 50.108.165.120

***Where is the email notification that a new users signed up? Where is the email confirmation link to notify the user that they can now post?f

Thanks!

Brian Tinsley

not sure what you are looking for...

admin notification emails and the emails to users (both sent by wp) are completely different...  we do offer options to customize the new user email a bit (but still sent by wp)...

what kind of confirmation link are you looking for??

if you have enabled SP customizing the email, you can add what you want but from what you posted, cannot tell..  Would need to know what you have for email message... if you really have as you indicated nothing, then the email content will be empty... by default, we use

Welcome %USERNAME% to %BLOGNAME% %NEWLINE%Please find below your login details: %NEWLINE%Username: %USERNAME% %NEWLINE%%LOGINURL% %NEWLINE%%PWURL%

Hi,

I am looking for just what my request indicated and my user indicated. He was looking for an email confirmation (Confirmation link) to let him know that he was signed up for the forum and it was OK to post. Because he didn't get one, he called me to ask if he could post.

In summary, I am just looking for a plain vanilla email confirmation that they have joined the aorticdissection forum.

How do I do this? I am not sure, or it is not clear to what appears to be a simple task.

Thanks,

Brian 🙂

as I said, wp sends this by default...  you can customize with SP if desired...  did you look at my reply?

is SP custom email enabled??  If so, what is your email content? does it match the default I showed?  Or have you customized further...

I still do not know what a confirmation link is?  one the user has to click on to confirm their registration?  wp does not do this normally...  If you use the email message I showed (our default), the user will get a link to a wp login page and also a link to set/reset their password... do you want a different link?  as the admin panel says, you can add a link to the site if you add to the content, the placeholder %SITEURL% where you want it to show...

sending/receiving of wp sent emails can be problematic, especially on shared hosting since wp uses a wordpress@xxxx.com type address and it may be rejected (or marked as spam) if that account does not actually exist on your server...  many wp email problems are resolved by the addition of a smtp plugin, such as hgk smtp plugin...

Thanks... I guess I am confused as how to configure the SP section (email). In the forum itself, it's not clear to me how to set it up.

I just thought it would be something simple.  This is why I need just a simple instruction as to how to configure it.

Please is there a way to do this?

Best!
Brian

I think Mr Papa was getting a little confused with your use of the term 'confirmation link' which suggests one of those systems where you sign up and get a link you have to go to to complete the process. And this is not something WordPress does suggesting you may be using some sort of plugin for this.

As to emails not being received the bottom line really is that SP does not send out emails - they all come from WordPress. SP just uses the WP mail system to add their emails to the standard WP ones. If you go to the forum admin > Options > Email Settings these are entirely optional so that you can use the correct email 'send' details asm by default, WordPress ends then all from 'WordPress' and many uses do not like that.

WP Emails is notoriously flaky as a trip to the WP support forums will testify. The first thing to do on the above SP Emails panel is turn off the new user email option to see of if WP is able to send the default version and if no, as Mr Papa suggested, the majority of people with this problem can resolve it by using an SMTP plugin such as 'hgk smtp'. In fact, we have to use it here as we have the same problem.

ok thanks.... It sounds like I need to turn the email off in the SP Forum and look in the WP for this solution and perhaps get the plugin as well.

Brian

Just a side note. not sure if it will help but if you have a new IP/ new website with an email..

had a similar issue with users not getting emails that I just got fixed..

most of the big email services blacklist you automatically as part of the spam war so your users may not receive emails but SP & WP may work..

actual SP probably works for sure 🙂

its WP that may cause problems...

  • I fixed mine by installing Postman plugin to better control WP emails.
  • going to Microsoft to whitelist my emails as well as
  • asking all my users to mark emails as 'not spam' to get some overall spam filter points.

than seemed to start take a positive effect on my email verification system in the website
