I plan to have a few forums restricted to only members including video tutorials and courses.  However, I would like any Guests to be able to see that there are posts in those forums, just not to see the threads themselves. Is this possible?

I would be awesome if Guests just couldn't read the individual threads by see what tutorials are available to them if they become a member as I am using my forum similar to a membership site and the videos are my "ethical bribe" for people to become members. My main course has worked to get people to subscribe to my list, so I am hoping it will help grow my community.

Is anything remotely like this possible? Any suggestions? Or am I out of luck?

yes there is... try here as a guest... you can see the forum and the topics but you wont see any post content...

its the sneak peek permission... also known as can view forum lists or can view forum and topic lists permissions...  you can also control what happens if they try to view the lower level content - ie display a message or redirect to another page for a message - for example, with an opportunity to join... that message/redirect is on forum - components - login and registration

ok, I will look into this after I integrate Wishlist.

Let me ask you this, would using WL's shortcodes Like in the post work? Or would SP just show the shortcodes.

I will report back once I get a chance to look into it.

Thanks!

I don't now any WishList shortcodes but as long as you whitelist them in the forum admin > Options > Content Settings then they should do their job. See the popup help on that section of the panel.

Excellent.  I will test this as I believe this is a better option.

There are short codes for WL that will allow show when a certain membership level is logged in an viewing. That means, I should be able to hide the links for each video but allow guests to read the intro. This will hopefully entice them to join the forum! I think this is might be a better option than the sneak peak, but I will have to test it out first and decide the best route.

Thanks again, I am definitely getting my money's worth of support wink

I tested the WL shortcodes and decided, without testing the sneak peak permission, that I will be going that route.

By using the shortcodes, All I have to do is surround the protected content (in this case a link to a video) with the appropriate shortcode. There is also a nonmember shortcode that shows content only for nonmembers, or members that are not logged in. I am going to put Click Here to Register and View Video and link it to the registration page.

This will allow nonmember to see that there are posts in these member only areas and realize that they can simply become a member for free and receive the information that they require.

Furthermore, I could add other membership levels in the future and have have paid subscription levels.

One final thing is that I can also use these shortcodes on blog posts as well as forum posts. I can now have a post for members and nonmembers on the post.

I believe this will be powerful in enticing people to register and become part of my community. Fingers crossed.

Since I used WL on another site, I have a list of members that I will upload to this new forum/membership site. Hopefully this will jump start the forum.

Thanks for the help. WL and SP are integrating nicely. Just have to do register button redirect and I will be ready to go!

sounds good...  the shortcodes are nice...  be aware that anyone can use the shortcodes in a post now - at least the ones that you have allowed...

Yeah, but they would have to know the shortcodes and the plugins that I am using. I'm not really worries about that. Most members in my niche are not site owners nor do they know Wordpress.
