Hi, our entire forum is set to be indexed.

However, many threads are low value and we would like to noindex them on a case by case basis.

We had a developer add a noindex button visible to admins when editing a post which noindexed the url.

However, he added the code to the main theme so of course it was wiped after the first upgrade of SP.

Can you let me know if:

1. there's any way we can do this with your plugin now, when I last checked it wasn't,

2. if not, could we commission you to add this functionality to our 2 sites

It doesn't have to work exactly like this, we just need a way to noindex each url.

Thank you, Stefan

Hi:

Unfortunately we don't have a no-index option.

Yes, we could add the functionality for you.  It would be cheaper if you can get ahold of the original theme changes so we can see exactly what the prior developer did and we can implement the same thing in a way that doesn't get wiped out on every single update.

I suspect that your dev was integrating the no-index option with an SEO plugin on your site.  So having that original code would help instead of us having to redesign from scratch.

Thanks.

Hi this is a message from our host who has identified some or possibly all the changes, please see attached file for details.

---

Please find attached a txt file which highlights the results from my search over the SimplePress plugin before it was updated. After opening the file, if you search for 'noindex', it should highlight the changes and show you where they were.

From what I've understood, there are changes for the database schema, API, form components and view class. There may be some results shown for the thread section which has been used as a guide to create the functionality for the post.

---

Please let me know the next steps

Hi:

Ah, yeah, that helps a lot in giving me an idea of the scope of work.

Ok, so, the bad news is that this is not going to be cheap.  The QA work alone to make sure it works with all our add-ons is extensive.  And, of course we have to make sure that it does not have any other side-effects in core.  As well as security testing (from the code you provided we can see some security related issues from unsanitized inputs).

The good news is that should you approve the work we would likely do it in core so that you don't have to worry about upgrading in the future.  Once completed we would take responsibility to keeping it upgraded in all future versions.

I can tell you that the estimate would likely be 40 hours at a minimum.  If that doesn't scare you given our hourly rate let me know and I'll get to work preparing a formal quote for you.

Thanks.

Hi, thanks for taking a look. Bit scared to be honest. Appreciate the QA element especially as it's your baby, but we don't have the budget for it. Would be a valuable addition to the SEO power of your forum - we've seen a nice boost to visitors as we've noindexed low value forum content - if you ever want to take it on let me know, happy to contribute just cannot fund in full. Thanks again.
