Older versions of Simple Press for download (and testing)

Hi.

I need to test and configure Simple:Press on a website which has WordPress 4.4.2 installed.

The version of the plugin I downloaded advised me (at installation) that WP 4.5 is required.

For a variety of reasons, I am unable to update the client’s site to 4.5 at the moment, yet I need to demonstrate Simple Press working on their site.

Can you provide a version of Simple Press which I can install?

Many thanks,

David

Hey David,

Yes, we have a back catalogue so to speak of previous Simple:Press versions. I think it’s only the latest version (5.6.5) that requires WordPress 4.5, so you would probably be best going for the latest major version in the list (5.5.9).

https://simple-press.com/documentation/codex/installation/upgrading/previous-simplepress-versions/

Hope that helps!

whoops, that page is bit out of date…  we should have the 5.6.x ones listed there too… will work on that this weekend…  and to be exact, 5.6.5 is the version that required wp 4.5..  but you should be good with yours too…

Hi folks

Downloaded 5.5.9 and installed it – still getting the WP 4.5 needed message … is there something in the db which need to be changed?

Thanks, David

Sorry – where are you getting this message? And is it stopping things installing or running?

are you sure you removed the newer version?  and do not have two versions of simple press in the plugins directory?

if you look in wp-content/plugins/simple-press/sp-control.php, what is the version number in that file?

Hi.

Looked at server folders … def. just the one called ‘simple-press’. sp-control.php says ‘SPVERSION 5.5.9’ .

What’s is it finding in the database, I wonder?

Deleted and re-installed 5.5.9.

Get “The plugin does not have a valid header.” when using WP plugin installer routine. Return to Plugins list, activate Simple:Press, go to installed .. get version error message.

How exactly are you removing versions? They can’t be ‘deleted’ and must instead be uninstalled properly via the admin menu Forum > Toolbox > Uninstall.

Hi Ike

Can’t do it that way (Forum > Toolbox > Uninstall) as I can’t get into the Forum or Install it in the first place … because it wants WP 4.5 !

Each time, I’ve used the WP Plugin deactivate then delete function … not deleting the files directly from the server control panel.

Where is it picking up the info about the versions? Must be something in the db.

you had old version installed first??? yes, cannot go backwards…  if you want to uninstall, you could go into the db and remove all the wp_sfxxxxx tables (your prefix might be other than wp_)…  warning: this will remove all you forum data…

Good morning.

On this domain (web-right.com/emgsdev) I’ve never been able to install Simple:Press – I’ve always got the message about requiring WP4.5

I’ve checked the db (wp_634), and there are no entries or tables for sf. I deleted the plugin again, checking the folder and all files were gone.

However, I did previously have Simple:Press installed in a WordPress instance in the root of web-right.com. This was in a different db (wp_812). I’ve been back to it, uninstalled it, deleted the plugin (all according to instructions), and checked that all the sf tables have gone – they have.

Back to web-right.com/emgsdev … re-installed 5.5.9, activated, clicked install … same WP version message.

I’ve looked through all the folders on the server, and all the databases … I can’t find anything else which relates to Simple:Press. And I’ve checked the _options table too.

I don’t understand PHP, so looking at the files doesn’t mean much to me … but which files are called when the ‘Install’ option is chosen, and where is it looking for and making the version comparison?

I’m sure we can get this fixed and get on with the testing.

Thanks, David

The only thing I could add would be that if it was the case you had remnants of a previous more recent version left over I would expect to see downgrade warnings rather than WP comparability warnings.

As Steve kindly brought the previous version list up to date, it might be worth deleting anything you have and trying a more recent version, 5.5.10 or 5.5.11 maybe.

Past that, we would have to wait for Andy or Steve’s opinion.
