Organizing Pinned Topics

I would love to know how this can be done.

I setup 5 pins in each section of my forum for the dedicated lessons associated with the category.

However, they show up like this

Step 5

Step 4

Step 2

Step 3

Step 1

I'd like to actually be able to organize the pinned topics (which have comments already) so they are in order.

Off the top of my head I think you will need to unpin them all then re-pin in the reverse order you want them in. Yellow Swordfish or Mr. Papa may have a better idea but may not get to the forums until tomorrow. Worth a try if you don't want to wait. smile

:(

Yea I was thinking the same thing.

When I tried that, it just stuck them in order of the posts being posted on the forum. Seeing as I don't know how to change the dates of posts, it's pretty confusing.

There's a question then.

Do you know how to change the dates of forum topics? :D

It was just a thought, worth a try..

I ASSuME that they are then sorted by post ID # not the date if re-pinning didn't work. Let's save this for input from one of the guys. They probably know off the top of their head where I would have to look at the code, or test, and figure it out.

Changing date won't help. Topics are sorted by id. Which when the post is made is essentially the same as the date on much, much faster.

What you want to do is pin them in reverse order. So pin #5 first then 4 the 3 etc... Then #1 will be at top.

We do have an open ticket to allow sorting of pinned topics but not ETA.

@Mr Papa, I tried to do exactly what you said, even did it in different orders, randomly, everything, and every single time, the pins are just in the same order as before.

Is there a way to change the ID? Or do I just have to delete the posts all together?

Yes that wont change anything.

Topics are actually sorted on the POST ID of the most recent post in that topic. And no - sorry - bit you can't easily change the ID of a topic.

However - if you make a new post to Step 5 this will float it to the top of the list. If you then make a new post to step 4 that will go to the top of the list and #5 will then be in second position. And on down to step 1. Long winded and perhaps not ideal but it will work.

And as Steve pointed out - we do have an open task to discuss this at some point in the future.

Ah so I guess what I'll do is work in reverse order.

Thanks a lot guys.

I know a bit of code myself, but sometimes not knowing something really confuses me. Knowing that this isn't a feature definitely makes me feel better actually because now I can figure out how to get it sorted out myself :)

I'd like to mention that I did as Swordfish suggested and it worked perfect!
