Support Forum
Every now and then, maybe two or three times a week the forum permalink breaks. It can be fixed by simply selecting the correct forum page /discuss in the drop down list again and then updating in the forum integration settings. The problem doesn't seem to be consistant or predictable.
We haven't changed the wordpress permalink structure. Everything is up to date. We are running Total Cache but have only just turned this on and the issue was present beforehand, I have also included the /discuss in all the caching plugin exception areas.
I found another topic on your forum that was very similar and was going to reference it but haven't been able to find it again.
Could you offer any advice?
Thanks
It has just happened, the error log is just full of
file: /simple-press/sp-api/sp-api-filters.php
line: 1704
function: htmlspecialchars
Warning | htmlspecialchars(): Invalid multibyte sequence in argument
Which you have said i the past is due to a forum post so have been ignoring these.
On this occasion the page selected was still correct and using 'update forum permalink' fixed it as usual, but I noticed in one of your other forum posts you asked if it changed and it has in the past.
those will be unrelated... the warning (which wont stop execution) is because you have a charset selected for your forum and you are getting characters that dont work in that charset... ie you have utf-8 set on db but some characters in posts are non utf-8...
as to the permalink resetting, the couple of cases this has happened has been tied to plugins not properly updating the wp permalink when they should have been.. or a redirection plugin getting confused by the forum url rewriting...
try the change here: https://simple-press.com/suppo.....2/#p124646
and see if it helps your permalink resetting...

That's good news! we have had a hanful of folks with similar issue so we are looking into what could be going on in this fringe cases...
No need to remember the change, we have actually made the same change in the next version so all should be well... unless there is different underlying issue... but the code change will still be there...
