you were not commenting it out, but moving it... do you actually copy it to the second file? and if you did the change pointed to by post #4, did you undo that?

No, you shouldnt have to... if this really is the fix to this rare problem of another plugin screwing with the rewrite rules in the admin... we think it is and this is good confirmation...
this change is already in the core code for 5.3, so you will pick it up when you update...

I just made the changes as directed above, and I'm still getting 404 error when clicking a link inside an email. However, if the forum is open in one tab, and I click the same link that previously generated a 404 page, it goes to the forum page okay. But this is not a change -- in other words, making the edits you suggested didn't seem to change anything.
When I click on a link in an email, I get a 404 page. I can click from there to my forum, and that does not generate 404s.
When I then go BACK to the email and click on the link AGAIN, right after getting the 404 page, it will go to the forum fine, without generating a 404.
Make sense?

Not a lot
Let's do it one step at a time starting with:
When I click on a link in an email, I get a 404 page. I can click from there to my forum, and that does not generate 404s.
What do you mean by 'I can click from there to my forum'? Do you just mean by that the forums front page (Group View) - for which you probably never would get a 404?
And - can you answer the question I asked above in post 14 because I am still unclear on that point...

Step 1: I click on a link to my forum inside an email, to try and view a forum post. This takes me to a 404 page.
Step 2: I move my mouse to the navigation bar at the top of my website and click on the link to the forums. This takes me to the forums.
STep 3: I click back over to my Gmail account, and try clicking once more on the link to my forum inside the email. This time it takes me to the correct post inside the forum -- no 404 error.
Note: I actually just tried to repeat the above, but all seems to be working right now. I'll let you know if the 404s persist again.
(Meanwhile, there seems to be no tinyMCE editor on your Simple:Press forum, as I type up this reply. This is the same problem I'm having on another site on which i'm using S:P. I have never managed to solve this problem, and it's probably going to force me to give up S:P on that site. If you fix it on your site, please let me know what works! Thanks!)
tinymce is working fine here... no other reports of such behavior, so seems specific to you... what browser and version?

Chrome, not sure the version as I'm on my phone now, but everything was acting up on Chrome today, so that's perhaps what was happening.
