While working on a moderation message display I noticed several things..
A new post that requires moderation does not show in the admin bar..
I have my forum set to require post moderation for a new users first 5 posts.
I logged in as a test user with less than 5 posts.. created a post - the post mod notice displayed in the post header and the post shows the user that post will require moderation before it can be viewed by users.
When I log in as admin the Need Moderation count shows as 0.
I also noticed that the post is only visible to the poster and the mod.. if I log in as a different user the post is not there.. is this correct?
If previous version of SP (4x) the post would show to other users but could not be read.. the post needs mod message would show..
Yes, you got it. The post will only be visible to regular users once it's been moderated. Until then, it will not be visible - in case there is something the moderator would not want the regular users to see (spam, profanity etc..)
Also, I would say that this will not show posts needing moderation that might have been there before, but it looks like you've covered that base already.
Will have to wait for Mr Papa to take a look when he is next on.
I think I have solved part of my question..
My settings require members with 5 or fewer post to placed in moderation.. in the example I showed in my previous post the user had less than 6 posts and the post was placed in moderation but did not show in the admin bar count.. that user is a moderator.
Question 1
Is that result correct that a user with moderator rights would still have a post put into moderation but not show in the admin bar count for post that Need Moderation and View New Posts?
I re-tested with a user without any special rights and less than 6 posts.. that worked correctly.. the post was placed in moderation and the need moderation count was increased by 1.
I noticed that the only button on the admin bar that is clickable is View New Posts - the other buttons - Unread and Need Moderation are not clickable (I do not use the spam plugin)
Question 2
Is the admin bar behavior described about acting correctly?
Well the 'Unread', 'Need Moderation' and 'Spam' are not buttons, they're labels, so this is correct..
As for the other question the only thing I could suggest is double checking permissions which you have already done. I would have thought that if a moderator had all the moderation checks set to bypass, then none of their posts should be going into moderation. But this could be a result of the code put in place. I can't see how a moderator is excluded, which might cause what you are seeing. Hopefully Mr Papa can confirm this as I could be wrong.
if I follow the questions, yes... if a moderator has a post that needs moderation (not quite sure I understand the use case there), he wont see it as need moderation because, well he cannot moderator his own post..
If I misunderstood, please clarify... or let me get more sleep got home from just after 3:30 am this morning...

It all comes down to permissions I believe. Steve please correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I'm aware if a moderator can't bypass post moderation then the posts will be moderated - as I don't believe there is anything in place to differentiate users needing post moderation other than permissions.
But as Steve pointed out, won't be able to moderate their own posts..
Might need some clarification on this one though, so will wait and see!
yes, all comes down to permissions... a moderator does not automatically bypass moderation... just like any user (except sp admins) they are subject to all the permissions from the usergroup/permission set they get on a forum...
