Problem pasting text copied from a Word

A user has had problems copying text from a Word document into a post. He's sent me the document. I've had the same problem. I can copy and past all of the text but only half a dozen lines from the beginning of the document are being saved to the post. I've tried copying text from other Word documents without a problem. I though it ,might be a formatting issue so I copied the text from the Word document to Notepad first before copying into a new post. I still had the problem.

Any idea how to overcome this?

Paul

While there may be something in the text of the document itself - and for that I really would need to see the original - the main problem with Word is the vast (and I do mean vast) amount of underlying formatting garbage that travels with it. Your switch to Notepad should, I believe, get rid of this bit I don't know for usre as I am not a Windows user and have not used Notepad for about 12 years. Certainly if Notepad interprets the document as rich text then it wont get rid of it all.

Before you send me the original to look at - have you actually tried pasting the content into the post editor using the 'Paste from Word' toolbar button? That is assuming you are using the tinyMCE editor and also using the default toolbar options.

I hadn't tied the "paste from Word" button. I have now. It still doesn't work.

Then possibly something on the document itself...

Here's the document text. Can you see anything amiss?

ON THE BRINK

When you were a kid do you remember standing on the high diving board for the first time at the swimming baths?

You are terrified, all your friends are watching and there is no way back.

My name is Mike, (63) and I am standing on the high board again.

I am planing to live aboard a narrowboat.

For the last six months I have looked at a hundred boats and you can only look at so much tongue and groove pine before they all start looking the same.

I have reached the conclusion that I am not going to find a boat that ticks all the boxes.

And so I finally choose a boat that ticked most boxes, or to be more precise it chose me.

Fantasia was one of the first boats I looked at, however it was way above my budget.

I forget which marina that was, but a few weeks later I went to view a boat in Alvechurch and Fantasia was moored next to the one I went to see. Coincidence?

The price had reduced slightly so I took the opportunity to have another look and knew straight away I hadn’t seen one better.

I made a cheeky offer, one that I could afford, however it was rejected.

I was resigned when a few weeks later I visited Whilton Marina to look at a selection of boats picked from the internet.

After looking at half a dozen in my price range of 30K I knew that I was not going to find one that I could live on without having to do a lot of work first.

I was walking back to the car feeling a bit disgruntled when what did I see chugging down the marina?

Fantasia! Was this an omen? Was she calling?

(Are you bored yet?)

I sat on the bank day dreaming for a long time, trying to work out how to raise more cash, maybe sell my beloved Harley.

The salesman must have seen me contemplating. He was aware of my budget and the difference in the asking price was still considerable.

“Make an offer, the vendor can only say no.”

I did and he did, and so I gave up and went to the pub to sulk.

I was at the point of dismissing the whole idea of a narrow boat life when my mobile rang.

It was Whilton. “The vendor has been thinking and is willing to meet you half way.”

I tried to hide my excitement, this was a good deal, but still more than I could afford.

“That’s great but I need a few days to think about it”

(I have thought of nothing else.)

By selling my bike and raiding my pension I can just do it without having to sell my house.

And that’s where I am at.

Do I close my eyes and jump?

And why could I post it on this forum and not mine?

Good question. I assume on your forum you were not presented with any error messages or anything?

About the only thing that comes to mind is if your post content has other, non-SP filters running which might be effecting the text. This is not as wild a theory as it might sound as lots of plugins will add 'special rules' to content and the forum does, after all, display itself on a standard WordPress page. So that would be the first place to look. I will also give it more thought.

The only error message I get is a cross which appears at the top of the screen after I've submitted the post.

No. I get the message, "Saving post. Please wait". After a second that disappears to be replaced with an image of a document with a cross at the top right but no text. I also get redirected at this stage from the forum I'm trying to post to to the forum home page.
