Problem Updating, getting an error...

First - I have NOT upgraded to WP3.5 (I know there's too many bugs still), so I know that is not an issue here.

Now - I did the update through the plugin though, to automatically update the forum.

It says:

"Permission Problem
Simple:Press can not create sub-folders under wp-content. Please assign correct permissions and re-run the install"

I do have this connected as per the instructions with Wishlist member, for privacy etc.

However, this gives absolutely *no* information on "where" I assign the permissions? Under wp-content doesn't mean a whole lot... what specifically am I supposed to change?

Please help, I was finally ready to make this live to my members as a switch from Joomla.

please be advised, but sticking with the old WP version, you may run into issue with tinymce plugin (for the forum) too since WP corrected numerous issues with the editor class...

are you trying to install or upgrade??  assuming the latter, but not sure...

in some php set ups, wp and simple press run under a different web user than set up for the site... so the wp-content folder may have permissions that make folder creation hard or incorrect... now, not sure why the upgrade script is checking that - will need to get with Andy...

but can you check the permissions and uid/gid (ownership) for wp-content...  and compare it to the sp-resources folder?  and maybe the uploads directory under wp-content too...

Yes, I am upgrading, not installing new.

I don't think there's any reason why wp and sp would run under a different web user for the site, I get what you're saying, but I doubt that's the case with us. We have a dedicated server, so everything pretty much runs as it's told to (same user), and I've never had this issue before without knowing specifically what.

The WP content has 755 perm.

sp-resources - same

uploads - 777.

Is it better for me to manually do the upgrade? Usually that's what I do, but figured it might be simpler this way since I already had it integrated.

Unfortunately I cannot (rather will not) upgrade to the newest WP 3.5 only until I know they have the patches out, because I can't risk losing the already active part of the site that has a big members base.

wp 3.5.1 beta 1 will be out by end of week if they hit their plans...  idk, wp 3.5 is nice improvement over 3.4.2... wouldnt want to go back... but then I always run wp out of trunk bleeding edge anyways - at least for my test sites...

uploads is 0777?  that is odd (and a bit insecure)...  and what about the uid/gid of sp-resources vs those two?  the would be the owners... normally your web user account...
