Problem With Amazon Links Post The Update

amazon-error-1.jpgamazon-error.jpgI’m having a minor problem since the update. I link products from Amazon for commission. Prior to the update, I was able to link using a picture.  Since I updated the forum, all the pictures disappeared to be replaced by an error.

I thought I might be Amazon, but since it’s not resolved, I am thinking it has to do with SP.

Also, when I create the post, the pic is there. When I post it, the error is there.

Thanks. :)

Sorry for posting the image twice. I could not see it in the preview window for some reason.

The image tags – or at least one I looked at at random – resolves to this:

http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=elsels-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B001CLGFQ4

which actually ends up being a single pixel and is not an image file.

Have you added any new WordPress plugins that maybe do something with Amazon links?

I have updated to WP 3.8 and update SP and all the plugins. I haven’t added anything new, but I think I did the updates backwards. I updated the plugins first.

Could you try posting one here? See what happens…

Great idea.  It doesn’t work. And it fails in a different way.

I do this by cutting and pasting html.

Here is a screen shot from Amazon:

forum-test-3.jpg

This is how it looks loading on my forum

test-forum.jpg

But when I submit, it gives the error.

Now here is the same thing on your forum – it shows up as a broken pic.

Well this is simply because it is not a valid image tag. It even specifies a both a width and a height of 1 pixel.

But – the code you are being asked to paste in is not really 100% visible from that screenshot and I would really need to inspect all of it to see why it is being declined overall – discounting the image tag which we already know about.

But the image is showing up on my forum in the preview, at the usual size.  Here is the bit with the size from the Amazon cut and past:

amazon&f=ifr&ref=ss_til&asins=B00BE7XCUS” style=”width:120px;height:240px;”

So something is reducing that and this was not the face prior to the update.

Also, it wrecked the stuff posted weeks ago…months ago.

I understand it may be Amazon, but it does not seem likely.  I post these linked pics, daily and have for months. All the sudden, I can’t.

Here is an example of what she is trying to post.

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BE7XCUS/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00BE7XCUS&linkCode=as2&tag=mageniumcom-20"><img border="0" src="http://ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B00BE7XCUS&Format=_SL160_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=mageniumcom-20" ></a><img src="http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=mageniumcom-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B00BE7XCUS" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />

This is the result she is trying to achieve.

Ok at the moment I am somewhat stumped.

Can you explain to me EXACTLY how you were entering this code into the editor – and which editor you were using? I have just spent the last hour using the previous SP version (5.3.4) and have not yet found any circumstances where this Amazon supplied code will work – not in preview, in the editor or in the published post.

I know WHY it wont work. I just need to understand how you were making it work to see of we can track down what might have changed.

Brandon – that’s it exactly. Thank you. I’ve no idea how you got that to work.

I am using Firefox, but I recreated the error using Chrome.

I have noticed other weirdness as well.

toolbar.jpg

Some of the buttons on the toolbar are greyed out. I don’t recall it being this way before the update.

Also, this is not consistent, but when I upload a pic, about half the time it does not show in the preview window. This is what led me to upload the graphic twice on the first post in this thread.  However, when I actually submit the post, the graphic is there.

Sometimes the graphics upload normally. The graphic in this post, I can see in the preview. I have not been able to isolate the situations where the graphics show or don’t show.

Thanks.

You appear to have ignored my post above (#11)

Brandon didn’t get it to work. He just pasted in the raw image url I think you will find.

I have not seen the issue with preview but will certainly run some tests to see if I can replicate at all. thanks.

The buttons that are greyed out are because they only operate when text is highlighted or when necessary. This has always been the case. The exception here seems to be the spellchecker button (AND the spell function) which I note has gone AWOL. Something esle to investigate as maybe WordPress team have removed it…

I am sorry. I thought you were addressing Brandon.  I also thought he did get it to work, because if you clink the pic, I see the Amazon code is embedded in the url.

I am using SP 5.4 and and WP 3.8. Everything is up to date.

To enter the Amazon code, I click the html button and then paste it into the pop up window.
I click update, and the picture shows, normally.

When I “submit reply”, it posts with the error.

Thanks.

What version of SP were you using previously? As I said – I tried this every way I could think of using 5.3.4 without any success whatsoever. It failed every time for me in those tests. It is not really an error either. What it is actually saying is that it has a link to an image but it can not find an image of that name at that location. It is actually – or probably – checking for the image width at that point.

So do I need to go further back than 5.3.4 for testing?
