Andy, this is what I have done. It looks OK to me.

sp_RecentPostList('show=10&admins=1',

__sp('Unread and recently updated topics'));

I tried, Steve. It still doesn't work.

I logged in with the admin account ID 1 and still nothing.

Which file is the one that contains those tools (New/Recently Updated Topics and Select Forum)?

I am not able to find it.

Stefano - my apologies. I misunderstood your original question and we have been looking at the wrong thing. I thought you meant the list of topics that appears on the front page beneath the groups. In fact - I now realise you are actually talking about the drop down lists. I am sorry for the confusion.

OK - you nee to look in the spHead.php template of your SP theme. You should have these lines of code:

    sp_SectionStart('tagClass=spPlainSection', 'search');
        sp_QuickLinksForum('tagClass=spControl spSelect spRight', 'Select Forum');
        sp_QuickLinksTopic('tagClass=spControl spSelect spRight', 'New/Recently Updated Topics');
        sp_SearchForm($searchForm);
    sp_SectionEnd('', 'search');

Are they there?

Odd. They should just be there then!
Can you give me a link to your forum page?

Oh gosh... your forum page is throwing 25 separate script errors which is by far the most I have ever seen. As far as I can tell - and it is hard with this sort of issue - is that once they start they are cascading and stopping other scripts from functioning.

I don't think this will do the trick but try it anyway. Go to the forum admin > Integration and turn off the option to load javascript in the footer. But basically it seems like there are a lot of errors being thrown by the theme.

Andy, the option to load javascript in the forum was already off.

How did you find out about the errors? I just checked with Firebug and it shows no error at all...

Curious. This is what I get with Firebug:
