In the older version, there was the option (Profiles ->Profile Data admin panel) to choose which information was displayed in the profile. In 5.0, how do I prevent First and Last Name from being displayed? (I basically just want the username and the PM button to show, stats is ok too.)
ETA: Never mind. I figured out that if I enabled PM and view memberslist and disabled view profile in the permissions, it basically did what I needed. But thanks for listening
well, in 5.0, we have removed a lot of options and moved them to template tag args... for others, like the ones you refer to we have adopted a full api much like wp using hooks (ie actions and filters)... so to remove items from the profile such as first and last name, you can simply use a wp filter to remove the data...
but if you are happy, then all is well... but happy to explain the filter removal if you want...

it is going to be a matter of you can't please all of the people all of the time.
One of the biggest issues we have always had is the issue of customisation. Moving to templates and themes and plugins overcomes that in a big way but it does mean that users will need to sometimes do a little work in the templates just like people have to do with WP themes.
That's the downside but the upside is a far more powerful engine that can be easily changed and remodelled with very little skill needed.

This seems like a lot of work for the normal user. I miss the old data profile page.
I was of exactly the same opinion until I dived in and started customising, if you read my posts on here you will see that I am embarrassingly inept as programmer and yet in a relatively short space of time I have been able to get my test forum looking and behaving exactly how I want it to.
The approach is so much more powerful and actually not that hard to work with. It's also much easier to tinker with things without breaking everything.
Have a go, it really is worth it.
