Support Forum
Sometimes I would like to take a forum Topic, and convert it into a Post on my main blog. Is this possible?
the way I am doing it now is:
- Login as Admin
- Go to the SP Forum Topic
- Edit the topic
- View / Copy the HTML to clipboard
- Add a new standard WP Post, Paste in the HTML.
- Insert a link in the new WP post, indicating the topic that the post was pulled from
- Return to the Topic and add a reply indicating that the topic has been promoted to a post on the main blog.
It would be nice to be able to replace steps 3-6 with a button on the "Forum Toolset"
You CAN currently do this when you write the first post of a new topic - it is is in the option list below the editor. But not subsequent posts to that. It is something we could happily consider although I have to say this might be the first request we have ever had for such a feature!

Thanks for your reply. Two problems...
1) The Options button only appears to be visible when writing the post for the first time. I need to be able to promote the post at any point in the future. When editing an existing post, the Options button does not show.
2) Even when writing a new Topic the only Options I see on that button are Lock, Pin, and Edit Timestamp.[Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found]
Thoughts? Thanks again.

Here is why I want this:
I am working on a chess website. Members can post games (in PGN format) to the forum via e-mail. A plugin allows for the PGN games to be played back. The original poster is expected to provide their own narrative to introduce the game and explain why it is interesting. Then the games are analyzed by peers.
If a game is especially interesting, I would like an authorized user ( Forum Moderator or Wp Admin) to be able to promote the original post so that it will show up along with the other "fully endorsed" content on the front page of the web site. The user who does the promoting would become the new owner of the article, and able to edit it. Replies to the post would ideally be converted into standard Wordpress "Comments."
These features are not necessary, but anything making it easier to promote (or even just copy and link-back) a forum Topic would be handy.
Maybe that puts it in perspective?

Well it will only appear for users who have forum permission to use blog linking and also the capability to create blog posts. And, of course, the blog linking plugin has to be installed and active. Do all of these apply?
Thoughts? Thanks again.

I fully understood the request already. As I said - I have noted it in the user request list.

Thanks, sorry for the unsolicited clarification on my part. It was not entirely clear to me that when you said "write," you meant to the exclusion of future edits.
I thought the missing Options button might be a bug, since the "Lock" and "Pin" functions are in fact always available on the Forum Toolset panel, even after the the Topic has been posted the first time.
No, I don't have that plugin; the description of the plugin seems imply linking in the reverse direction: creating Topics from Blog Posts. But that may be useful in other circumstances, so I will check it out.
Thank you for your fast and knowledgeable answers, and for submitting the feature request.
Best regards!
I guess the title does imply a one way affair but in fact it will do both ways - including your request for follow up comments to appear in both places (or optionally just in one). So you can turn blog comments into forum posts and/or posts into blog comments. Just - at the moment - it needs to be done when that first topic post s written.
But at least it is now on the request list!
