Is there any way when we approve someone's first post that an email notification would be generated to the user that their post has been approved?

Not as things stand - at least not without a lot of coding into hooks etc., But it is an interesting question, We can discuss it here. Is it an important feature request?

No, not really more of an enhancement, I have it set for first post moderation and sometimes it takes a couple days for me to approve it and then we never see the person again. I have since used mentions to notify them that someone has interacted with them on the forum but I figured it would be simpler to just fire off an email when that first post was approved.

OK - I will open a dev ticket on it which will spark a discussion and you never know!

Andy sort of alluded to it, but you could hook into sph_post_approved which passes the approved posts so you could send emails to the posters... does take bit of code, but not much...
