Thanks but
1. The wp page where the featured topics shortcode is place is now blank, with no content, meaning that all the topics that I have featured does not dsiplayed there. Any more ideas how to solve this?
2. The reply via email seems not to be working for me. When a new post is made on the forum i get notified as admin but when i reply to that topic from my email, it does not show on the forum, is there any kind of setting i need to do other than installing and activating the plugin
3. I cant find the post thanks button on the forum, where is it hiding please. I have the plugin installed and activated ok and configured the setting, but cant find it, on the forum.
4. I almost forgot this one...The auto subcribe function seems not to work. I set it to auto subscribe for threads user post in, but i find out they still have option to chose whether to subcribe or not.
Excuse my many questions and expect more, cos I am learning.
Thanks
1 - how did you enter the featured topics (not posts if using the topic tag)? in the admin or on the front end? how did you enter the shortcode? in the wp editor text mode? please show exactly what you entered...
2 - have you properly configured it per: http://codex.simple-press.com/.....-by-email/ ? that is created the email accounts, set up all the options and configuration and tested it?
3 - Post thanks... which template functions did you use from: http://codex.simple-press.com/.....st-thanks/
4 - yes of course... users need a way to opt out of it... and when you set the option, it only works for new users - it cannot go back and change the setting for existing users... if you really want to options from users and back em into a corner, you can use the 'sph_ProfileUserSubsAutoStart' filter to remove it from the profile form... again, we dont make it an easy option because forcing users to not have an opportunity to opt out of something shouldnt be taken lightly...

On the codex page I saw this...

To display using the default arguments.

I Inserted the shortcode in the wp text editor. This is what I added:
What I want to achieve is to display featured topics on a wp page using the shortcode. I want to be able to have like 15 topics list on the feautred topics displayed and I dont want the forum category where the feautred topic is pulled from to show. Lets say I have topic like these below in different forums
How to Verify Paypal
How to Lie
How to Act
Those are examples. I want these topics as I feature them to just display on the wp page so that when a user clicks he is taken to the forum area to read.
I hope u understand. Just tell me how to call 15 featured topics onto a wp page using the shortcode. Thats all.
Thanks
you didnt answer my question #1 which is key... how did you designate which topics were to be considered featured? you have to create the list or pass a list via the shortcode attributes all per the codex page...
forum - components- featured topics admin panel is one way to designate featured topics...
or you can do it using the forum tools on the front end and marking which topics (will show up in admin panel then too)...
or you can pass a list of topic ids to the shortcode...

when you visit the other page, are you logged in or as guest? and can guests view the forum?
I will run some tests tonight on the shortcode and make sure its working... we tend to use template tags much more frequently...

I am logged in and not a guest. While waiting for your test to complete, can you give me exact template snippet I need to copy and paste and how i need to do it
Sorry - I believe Steve had a bit of a hectic night with some server problems and as it is now overnight in the US I can't ask him if he managed to fit in the test he promised to make.
Also not really sure what you mean by 'template snippet' either but the featured post/topics tags and shortcodes are documented here: http://codex.simple-press.com/.....ed-topics/ which should tell you what you need to know.

You guys are just sending me back and forth to this codex article. No one wants to understand that its not solving my problem. I posted an example of a site I am trying to emulate and have been providing as much information as I could.
Last chance before i call all this off.
1. I am using the front end admin topic/post toolset to assign featured topics.
2. I am trying to put the featured topics shortcode on a wp page on the text editor area

Yes - I knew this
2. I am trying to put the featured topics shortcode on a wp page on the text editor area [sp_featured_topics]
3. After I add it (the shortcode) and visit the page front end where its added, the page is blank(nothing shows)
I knew this too. This is what Steve (Mr Papa) was going to test out.
4. While I am waiting for MrPapa to run his test, can you show me how to create a template and the exact codes or tags i need to put there so as to display the featured topics on one of my wp pages.
You see i am really trying to be helpful but I don't know what you mean by 'create a template'. Are you asking me how to make a WP page template? Is that it? If so then you are better off looking that information up in the WP Codex where they do have a tutorial I believe. It is not that complicated but would take me an hour or so to write up and it is already available elsewhere.
If this is NOT what you mean by 'create a template' then you are going to have to explain it more clearly I am afraid.
5. On the codex article,it doesn't exactly show which page or template to put the template tags so as to display featured topics to end viewers.
Well no - we can't really do that. It depends 100% on where you want to put it - which pages/views you want to show it on and more importantly even than that - how your WordPress theme is constructed as they are all different - sometimes remarkably different.
And yes - i know, before you repeat it, that you included a link to a site you would like to emulate but that is NOT a WordPress site so that is only going to be really possible if your WP theme has been constructed or customised to work in a similar way.
I hope u get me clearly this time. Excuse my impatience but I am not a developer, wonder if I must become one to use this simple-press stuff.
Cheers
Most WordPress users who self-host (as opposed to using wordpress.com) will probably tell you that while you do not need to be a developer and have a full working knowledge of php/mysql/javscript/problem-with-post-edit-buttontml etc., then a basic understanding of these and how WordPress works is worth devoting a little time to and learning. The great thing about Wp is that every site using it is somewhat unique in terms of the plugins/theme etc., combinations. But it is also this infinite variety that sometimes makes it hard to make a specific statement.
