I tried adding '#spMainContainer a' to the code, but it doesn't work. When you are on your computer could you please post the exact code. Here is what I tried:
#spMainContainer a { color: blue !important; text-decoration: underline !important; }

Well that looks about right. Back at computer now..
I posted exactly the same thing for someone else recently here, and it looks to me to be exactly the same CSS..
#spMainContainer a {
color: blue !important;
}
