I just upgraded to Simple Press 5.0 as directed (fron 4.5.1). The forum seems to be working but I have lost my recent posts widget for my sidebar...please advise how I can restore this.

You need the Template Tags plugin for the widget.
Take a look here about getting it and showing the widget.

Thanks for the heads up...the page you referred to says
"The Widget plugin is included in the main plugin files..."
Where? I can't find it?

I think he meant the main download page... All plugins and themes for SP can be found on the download page...
then after activating, it will be in the widgets panel like any other widget...
please not its a sp plugin, not wp plugin so it goes with the sp plugins...

Thanks! Downloaded it & got it working...the only thing is before I was able to have a small icon of the member...now that is gone...any getting it back?

its still there... look at the display options... think the default is FTUD or similar... if you add an A in there you get the avatar...
