Refreshing page causes content attachments to duplicate

When I attach a photo to a post and publish it, the same attachment is duplicated each time I refresh the page. The content shown isn't duplicated, just the listing of attachments. How can we fix this?

Here's a screenshot of a post footer after three page refreshes:

can you provide more details? what does refresh mean?  reload the page?  so everytime everyone visits the page you get another?  or do you mean litterally after saving, you refresh the page and save the form again??

After I publish a post that has an attachment in it, I refresh the page in the browser and the listing for the attachment in said post duplicates. I've only seen this happen with my posts with attachments, however, and I'm the admin.

you did not answer what exactly you meant by refresh...  I gave you a couple of options - was hoping for better explanation...

this is not something anyone else has reported, nor have I been able to duplicate...  but may not be trying right sequence since its not clearly exactly what you are doing....

What I mean by refresh is I click Command+R on my Mac to reload the browser page. I'm not sure if there's any clearer way to explain this.

The obvious next questions have to be

  1. Why do you refresh the page?
  2. When do you refresh the page?

For example - do you click on the 'save' button for a new post and THEN refresh the page? Do you wait for the saved page to reload or try and refresh before it reloads?

If you have an old page open on a topic with a post with an attachment and perform a page refresh does this happen?

If it didn't happen  before what has changed to possibly make it happen - and please don't say Reboot as the theme has NO impact on processing.

I noticed this about a month ago with the Default theme I was using, which was the only theme I had installed for years.

Here's the process:

  • I click the Add Reply button
  • I attach a photo to my post
  • I publish the post
  • I then click Command+R on my keyboard to see if others have posted
  • I notice that the attachment listing duplicates each time I press Command+R or use the arrow refresh button on my browser.

Strangely, this only happens with my own posts, not others and it doesn't affect old posts.

In terms of changes, I mean I did migrate my entire forum to a new database back in January but I don't think that would change anything. I don't use any new plugins or anything. Things are pretty much the same as they've always been.

I hope this helps answer the questions.

The key questions - which you did not answer - were:

do you click on the ‘save’ button for a new post and THEN refresh the page? Do you wait for the saved page to reload or try and refresh before it reloads?

I am trying to get you to tell me whether you wait for the page to reload after the save or if you perform the refresh before it reloads...

I have noticed before - and this week - that your site runs pretty slowly so are you refreshing before the saved post page reloads itself.

Once again this is a completely unique report and there is no way we can replicate the behaviour which is why we need an explicit description of what you are doing,

RE: Process

Once I publish the post, I let the page finish loading completely. I may or may not refresh immediately after that but I usually do a few moments later and when the page reloads completely, that's when the attachment listing duplicates.

RE: Site speed

Slowness is a battle I've been fighting since day one of using Simple:Press back in late December 2010. I use very few WP plugins but have several SP plugins installed. The forum is all that is on the site. Blogging is done on another site entirely. There was a point some years back where I moved to an expensive VPS and that did exactly nothing for site speed so I recently went back to shared hosting. Site speed has always been a frustration as I've literally done everything I can to keep things as lean as possible. I don't know how to make the site any faster.

It's been so frustrating that I've considered on many occasions to leave Simple:Press and move to vBulletin, phpBB or another forum platform.

If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears.

is it slow only when saving? seems to be loading in 2-3 seconds this evening, but cannot post...

minor things, but your background image is quite large for an image (> 1MB)... not huge but something loaded often... plus your theme is loading another background image behind it that cannot be seen and its a couple hundred kilobytes... little things add up...

are all pages slow or just ones with lots of images?  I see quite a few threads that have very large image sizes (size and dimensions) displayed in reduced dimensions (based on width provided)... if these are the slow topics, you can reduce loading time by limiting image size...

as Andy says, its quite a unique situation here as we cannot duplicate it nor is anyone else experiencing it... so just trying to find out more info...  Are for the duplicated listings at bottoms, are multiple images displayed (your image crop only shows attachment list)??  Are multiple images actually uploaded to server?  are you cleaning these up as they occur?  I didnt find any threads existing right now with this occurrence (if there is, please point to it)...  so if you refresh the page other than this command-R does it happen? other means, use browser reload, visit page again in browser, etc...
