Support Forum
Hi
I have made my blog into a monthly magazine called ScotchPotch Magazine, which means I don't want my subscribers to be hit by dozens of post notification e-mails when I update the magazine at the end of each month. So I'll be using a newsletter/mailing list plugin to collect new subscriptions.
On my magazine (blog), there will be a link to the forum.
Is there a way to ensure that if someone registers on my forum, they would not end up bypassing the blog mailing list and become a standard WordPress blog subscriber? If they do, they would be hit by lots of notification e-mails, as explained above.
I hope I've explained this correctly. Basically I want subscibers to my blog to be added to a mailing list and subscribers to my forum to be able to add posts, etc.
I briefly made my forum public for testing purposes one day and someone nipped in and registered, which showed up on my Users menu in the WordPress Admin.
There is no such thing as 'registering for the forum'. Registration is a WP process and is for the 'site'.
If you are wanting to force your users through some custom registration process then I would suggest you either remove the registration link on the forum display or change the registration url the forum uses. Both can be achieved on the forum's 'Login and Registration' admin panel.

Hi
The admin team never fail to impress me - you always reply to queries very quickly. Thank you.
After looking through the available plugins and options, I've resolved the issue quite easily. I use Subscribe2 for readers who want to subscribe to my magazine. I just made sure that all the subscribed categories are unticked, so that if I publish a post, the subscribers do not get an e-mail notification.
At the start of the month when I upload the new posts for the magazine, I simply e-mail my public subscribers and advise them with one e-mail that the new edition of ScotchPotch Magazine is available to read online and I supply the link.
Once the forum is launched, anyone who registers will have the usual access and will not receive a monthly reminder that the new edition of the magazine is ready - unless they subscribe separately on the magazine page.
Sorted (hopefully)

First of all, may I wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
Simple:Press 5.0 Build 7652, plugins up to date.
I've decided to use your method (as per your previous post) to redirect the registration process to another page, so that I can show the conditions for posting on the forum, etc.
As a test, I redirected to a page that's already setup, to check the register button would redirect to that page. It does not. So obviously there is something else I have to do.
Here's a screenshot of the Login & Registration page
The url http://scotchpotch.com/about-2/ is my ABOUT page. Obviously if that had worked, I'd replace it with a page with a form.
All that happens when you click on the 'Register' button, is that it goes to the usual WordPress registration page.
that is a registration redirect... AFTER the user has registered...
so what do you want to do? put a policy on there? if so, see the policy docs plugin..
