Hi

I realise the Registration and Log-in processes are managed by WP but I am looking for a registration plugin that is simple, secure and totally compatible with Simple Press.

I get low to moderate traffic on my website - about 500 unique visitors per day - and, having been hacked once before, I am stacked to the eyeballs with anti-spam and anti-hacking plug-ins (Akismet, All In One WP Security, Sucuri, Captcha, Cloudflare, Custom Login).

Yes, I know, having so many plugins covering the same territory is asking for trouble.  That seems to come in the form of people following the instructions but not getting the confirmation email with their password on it (even though they are listed as users).  Also the check boxes for my terms and conditions have disappeared.

My problem is partly that many of my readers are not particularly computer literate.  When I get complaints that they can't login, I am never sure if it's them or the system that has failed.

The other issue is that, since my forum is linked to the online pages of a daily newspaper, I attract a lot of online nasties who just want to stuff things up because they can.

So here is my question - is there an easy-to-use but totally secure registration plug-in (or combination of plug-ins) that is reasonably idiot-proof (and I include myself in that) that will allow me to disable some of these other plugins that may be getting in the way of the smooth running of the website.

My website is flat-chat.com.au.  If anyone has any brilliant ideas I'd love to hear them.

Thanks

sorry, but what are you looking for in a registration plugin??  registration is handled within wp core and a plugin is not needed unless you want additional features or capabilities...

terms and conditions?  not part of wp core either so are you using a registration add on already?

a couple we have heard good things about:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/.....e-builder/
https://wordpress.org/plugins/.....-my-login/

but again, if you have special needs or desires, please specify...

as to spam forum posts, I would suggest checking out our captcha plugin...  tends to stop spam cold and can work with akismet...

also, if you are allowing guests to post, then you might consider at least having the posts moderated (admins/mods have to approve) or perhaps making them register (still free)...

What I am looking for in a registration plugin is something that is easy for my readers to use but is not so simple that spammers with fake email addresses can clog up my membership lists  (as happens on other, less secure sites I edit).  I don't know why anyone would do this but my security plugins log literally thousands of attempted intrusions every week.

Regarding the Terms and Conditions, what I meant was the "Policy Documents" that I used to be able to require registering users to agree that they had read.

I think that function has been cancelled out by one of my registration plug-ins (which is why I want to find one that is fully compatible with Simple Press).

I will definitely look at the captcha plugin and the two plugins you mentioned.

Thanks

Good hunting. I have had reasonable success with 'Theme My Login' before - simple but effective.

Well, I sent all day wrestling with this then discovered that my Wordpress security plugin was changing my login-page address so it was coming up with an error page when people clicked on the link.

The frustrating thing about all this is having to delete my username(s) and email addresses after each time I tested my new registration procedures, so I could use them again.

I didn't have much luck with either of the recommended third-party plugins but the Simple Press Captcha plugin works really well, is simple and looks great so I will stick to the WP basic login and register page for now.

Thanks for that.  All good now

Great to hear. We have found it very successful on our own site.
