Support Forum
I'm using Simplepress 5.5.11. When I upgraded to this newest version of Simplepress, the search function in my forum stopped working in the Simple Press forum. It just gives me an error every time I try to search for something at the top of the forum. General search box It says "ERROR 404 - page not found" regardless of what I type in. It;s just not registering with my forum at all.
__
In addition, when I click "search" within one of my forum categories (I have like 8 subforums) I get a different error message that says"The forum is empty" and "oh brother no topics were found here" (see attachment for a screen shot) I have thousands of posts in my forum though. The rest of my forum seems to be working correctly.
It is weird cause it pulls up one of our users (Jay Kruz) everytime we search in one of the subforums (This user is not an admin- just a subscriber). I've even tried by logging in through multiple profile names and this person's same user name always shows up. (I've never logged in as him - and he is not spam, but someone I know) No forum posts show up regardless of what I search by.
Anyone have any suggestions on what I can try to remedy this problem?
Any ideas?
upgrade from what version? sp plugins and themes up to date as well?
try going to forum - integration - page and permalink and updating the permalink...

I just updated the permalink, but it didn't fix the issue.
I use bbPress with my Simplepress forum.
I had updated both bbPress & Simplepress and notices some weird layout problems in my forum. So I used the "WP rollback plugin" to rollback the bbPress plugin to the original version I had before the update. That's about when I noticed the search function not working anymore.
*Both bbPress and Simplepress are the latest updates. My version of Wordpress is the latest update too.
I use bbPress with my Simplepress forum
sorry, can you explain what that means?? there is no interaction between them... and of course, have to be on different wp page slugs...
you didnt say (per request) what version of sp you updated from... did you update your sp theme and any sp plugins as well?
do you have a link??
sorry, just noticed the search image... can you explain that? do a forum search loads the normal sp page - so not sure how that could possibly be a 404 (since you had to be there to do the search in first place).. what is the url it says it cannot find??

My confusion, I was thinking the guy that designed our site had used bbPress with our forum. That is not the case. I'm on Simple Press 5.5.1 I can't find where it says which version I upgraded from. (Since you asked)
Here's the 404 error message I'm getting when I click the search box at the top and enter in the word CHRISTMAS:
http://www.creativecardio.com/.....;include=3
It seems that it is not searching within the forum
Then a few times when I was searching inside one of my subforums, I got this page:
http://www.creativecardio.com/.....;include=1
If you email me, I can get you access into my forum if you wanted to take a look. scott.herrold@gmail.com
How about the questions on updating SP plugins and themes too?
The URL looks OK to me.. It could be that you're servers running mod_security.
It should be easy enough for you to find out if your hosting company is running mod_security on their server. It's OK when the URL's are static but when they're dynamic such as permalinks it can cause problems.
No harm in finding out, send them an email and ask, and if they are they should be able to turn it off for you.
also, do you have any other wordpress search plugin active? or maybe even bbpress like you said? its possible some other plugin is also using the query arg 'search' though the wp standard one would be 's'...

Yes all SimplePress plugins and themes are updates to the latest versions. I'm not running any other wordpress search plugins.
So I called by hosting company and they said that mod-security is running, but there is no way to stop it in this environment.
They turned debugging on and this is what my site said:
Notice: wp_enqueue_script was called incorrectly. Scripts and styles should not be registered or enqueued until the wp_enqueue_scripts, admin_enqueue_scripts, or login_enqueue_scripts hooks. Please see Debugging in WordPress for more information. (This message was added in version 3.3.) in /XXXXXXXXXXXXXX/html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3622
Notice: The called constructor method for WP_Widget is deprecated since version 4.3.0! Use
__construct()
instead. in /XXXXXXXXXXXXXX/html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3457
They look like just notices.. Not sure if they have any bearing on the search issue.
I know some users have been able to whitelist certain mod_security rules in the past but firstly not sure if this is something you can do your your host has to, and to add it's really not something I personally know too much about. Hopefully Steve or Andy will have some input on this one..
Yes these may be notices, but the support guys at my web hosting company looked through my site and they believe that there was a problem with the upgrade to Simplepress 5.5.11 and something glitched in the process. That is where the problem hit that causes a lot of things on my forum to get messed up. (I have been able to get all the other problems fixed (layout/formatting issues/backgrounds not showing up- but the search feature on the forum is the one thing we can't figure out what is wrong)
Everything worked perfectly before that upgrade. I looked into it and our hosting company says we've always had mod_security enabled.
I'm wondering if something was corrupted or changed when we upgraded to Simplepress 5.5.11 and part of it didn't stick? When it was originally upgraded, but theme wasn't upgraded first. I did that second. So is there a way to backup my forum content and reload all that fresh? I'm willing to pay someone who can login to my site and get this search feature fixed. -Scott.Herrold@gmail.com
