Hi,

I migrated my wordpress site with SimplePress from one domain to another. On the new site, the menu appears in all the posts content where the wording should be. When doing a new topic - again it reverts to the menu.

I am not sure whether I should uninstall, delete the Simple Press and then reinstall or whether some kind soul knows what the problem might be and can advise.

Any help gratefully received. Thank you

Can you explain a bit further as to what you mean by 'menu' please?

Thanks for coming back. It is the top menu which include a log out option. I think it is something to do with registration or permissions.

I have set the forum to read only. Only subscribers - or people that are logged in can see the board.

Perhaps I could give you my admin log in details for you to have a quick look if that is possible please ?

Many thanks for the reply.

IF this move of SP involves the use of a new WordPress theme then try a few things first. Go to the forum admin > integration > page and permalink - and try using the options bottom right... one or both of the top two - Limit to Loop and Multiple Loading.

If no combinations of those make any difference then also try the option on the left - Strict use of the WP API. You might have to juggle those three settings but I would always try the strict use with the other two turned off for the first test.

If nothing helps then perhaps an admin account might be worth trying although I have to say this is definitely a new thing I have never seen before. But - if it comes to that then please PM credentials to both myself, to 'Mr Papa' and to 'Ike'. Please include in the PM a link to your site, a link to this thread and brief reminder of the problem. And one of us will take a look for you.

Many thanks - I am having a nightmare of a day.

I decided to uninstall and reinstall. I clicked the uninstall, deactivate and received the message that I will lose all my data. I reinstalled but on activation I have just the Forum heading in the Admin sidebar with an Admin sub menu and nothing else.

Under the plugin I have the message in red: Simple:Press is READY TO BE REMOVED. When you deactivate it ALL DATA WILL BE DELETED

I deactivated, deleted, checked the database and there are there no tables with the sp prefix. Reinstalled and have the same problem as above.

Sorry to be a pain - but grateful if you could advise. Many thanks

are you sure you want to uninstall?  Are you sure you really uninstalled?  just checking the box wont do it... you have to deactivate the plugin itself and it will remove all your data...

the message under the plugin would indicate that it has not been uninstalled..  deactivate the simple press plugin...   then when you activate it again, you will be prompted to uninstall...

if for some reason that is working (no reports of it not uninstalling), you can manually do it and be assured it will installed when activated...  manual method:  deactivate plugin then in your db, remove all the tables that start with sfxxxx where xxxx will vary...  by default would be wp_sfxxxx  but your prefix might be other than wp_

My impression from the post was that you HAVE uninstalled and therefore, ig you actually have, you  have list all of your forum data - which of course, is exactly what you were told was going to happen in the popup confirm dialog.

Either way You have not made any reference to my post above (#4) so I am none the wiser as to what you have or have not tried or done. Certainly uninstalling would/was unwise. And reinstalling the plugin software is also rarely required.

Many thanks Mr Papa for the help - I will look at the tables and see if I can find the entries.

Many thanks to you as well Yellow Swordfish for the help. It is all my fault. I tried to fix it by uninstalling incorrectly. I will try and find the tables using phpadmin which I need to mug up on as I am not an expert on this - and then delete them. Then I can try and get this working.

Best regards,

Stephen

Hopefully you still have the original data you can get back to...
