Support Forum
Hey everyone,
I'm using the Simple:Press plugin to set up my site's forum. I've been testing it out with friends, and they've been getting confused with registering. I think they get confused once they log in with the PW that is sent to them in an email - they are brought to a page that lets them change their password (and after that it shows our site's WP dashboard) and that's what throws them off. They don't necessarily know how to use WP and don't know how to click back into the forum. I don't want to discourage people from posting by things getting complicated. I'd like to do one of the following:
1) Figure out a way to tweak Simple press, so when a user logs in for the FIRST time using their assigned PW, they are brought right to the forum topic/post they wanted to contribute to.
2) - Use a plugin to let them pick their own password
- Disable the registration email that assigns them a password (when I use plugins that let users pick their own passwords, they still get that email that assigns a password, making the plugin obsolete.)
- Have them directed directly to the forum topic/post upon login.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

This is normal, default WP behaviour although I don't think anyone knows why or likes it. Go to the forum admin > Options > Global Setting where you can put a stop to this and redirect users to a url of your choice.

How on earth does anyone know what topic they ant to post to on their first visit? Actually how does anyone know on any visit come to that! Much better to land on the font forum page or somewhere like that.
2) - Use a plugin to let them pick their own password
There are a variety of these available from the WP plugin repository.

I am surprised. A good plugin should take care of this. But do go to the forum admin > options > email settings and make sure the option is not set to use the forum generated new registrant email.
- Have them directed directly to the forum topic/post upon login.
Again - the landing page is for you to set up and decide really but I would suggest the main/front forum view.

Trying your advice worked, but redirecting still takes users to the User Profile Overview panel. The URL used to redirect them to homepage of the forum is correct, any idea how i can bypass the User Profile Overview Panel? Would like them to see the homepage of the forum right away on their first login.
Thanks!
