Been doing some cleaning house on my sucks site. Running WordPress since 2007 and many changes have produced massive 404 errors that Google and Bing constantly re-crawl sucking up server resources.
Found this plugin that does an excellent job finding 404's and allows adding select urls to a 410 list stored in WordPress database. Unfortunately this does not work for SimplePress forum urls.
So my question is, how can i reject forums / posts that have been removed as 410 gone instead of the current 404 status?
Thanks in advance..

I guess the old fashioned way by listing in the .htaccess file. But that is manual.
How would one 'find' 404 urls? Guess at them??? Or is it simply keeping a list of deleted wp posts in case they are later referenced?? Similar could be done in simple press by hooking into the group/forum/topic/post deletion process and storing irks of deleted items but we don't have anything like that now.

The wordpress plugin records a list of 404 urls and checking one or all adds them to a 410 list in the database. But simplepress urls that are added to the 410 database still report 404 not found in simplepress.
Have not tried wildcard redirectmatch 410 in the htaccess file. That might be a better option for removed forums, but other forum Javascript and updated / removed files and topics not so easy.
