I'm having a hard time understanding the SEO options. Anyone have any advice for me?
I looked at the Help but it's pretty vague and the codex page is still waiting to be written. I tried to search for "seo" but came up with zero results and the advanced search told me I could only search for words of 4 characters or more.
Help!
well, what do you want to do with SEO? hav eyou tried the popup help in neach admin section? If you dont know what SEO is, you can probably ngoogle it and get some initial definitions...
the page/browser title determine which page components show up in the nbrowser title (way in upper left) and the title tags the html head nsection...
meta tags setup and data control what pieces of information go into the nhtml head section meta tags... you can create custom description and nkeywords for the whole forum or have them unique for forum and topics... nand even have the custom description pulled from the first post in the ntopic...
lots of choices, but need bit more inside into what you want to do or nwhere you are stuck...

The pop ups are too vague. Its like saying if you want toast put some bread in the toaster! But without saying where I get the bread from and what types of bread can I use, and how many slices can I put in the toaster. Would be nice to have this information in the Codex there seems to be too many pages marked as "yet to be written".
I guess what I want to know is how changing each setting affects the sites SEO and ultimately the ranking in google etc. There seems to be a lot that goes on in the background but without giving a clear idea of what actually happens so I can only guess what each setting does and how I might want to use it.
If anyone has played around with the settings and worked out the best mix, please advise what your suggestion would be. Thanks
the popups and options assume an understanding of SEO and what you are doing on your site... if there was a simple, one answer fits all situation, we would have just done it a singular way... but ask four folks about best way to do something for SEO and you get about four different answers... so we have tried to cater to the folks who want to do it differently...
so if asking me, I would:
in title section, check all options but the exclude forum name one...
enter a custom meta description that describes what your forum is all about...
enter some custom keywords that describes your forum...
in meta tags setup, select the last option for both description and keywords...
in next version, you will also be able to add a custom description for each forum...
