I can't figure out how to make my page titles for topics to be the name of the topic. I'm in the Components: SEO section but nothing seems to make a difference. Maybe something else is overriding it? Forum is at http://goldendoodledo.com/forum/ It is brand new and a work in progress so only one topic is listed but I think you will be able to tell from the one.

Thank you! smile

Probably best f yopu let us know what options you have selected there.

But... there is one other factor which need to be borne in mind. If you are also using an SEO plugin then it is possible that the SP settings and the page title settings in that plugin are in conflict. Could this be the case?

Right now I have Include page name in page/browser title and Include topic name in page/browser title. I've tried several different ways. However, I think the problem sounds like it is my Yoast SEO plugin. Can I change any settings to still use that plugin but accomplish the forum page titles like I want?

Thanks.

We have quite a few users using yoast seo and simple press successfully. But must admit we have had 3 or 4 in last few months who had seo title issues. We have not had chance to download yoast seo and see what might be up but since both are trying to affect the same piece of info. Those folks with the recent issue got around it by using the plugin organizer for WP. It allows you to turn off plugins on specific pages so they could turn off yoast and let sp seo do its thing.

Thanks for your reply. I thought I read somewhere here, but I can't find it now, about the All in One SEO plugin working well with Simple:Press. If that is so I can switch to that one. Most of my website will be the forum so it isn't a huge deal. Do you think that will work better, without using the Plugin Organizer for WP? Or do you know of other SEO plugins that would work better?

yes, all in one seo is known to work good with simple press... they have a hook that we have tied in to so that we can ensure on the forum page the seo title is correct... yoast seo may very well have as similar hook, but just have not had a chance to try yet... we found out about the aioseo hook because they use simple press as their support forum and they passed it on to us... so yeah, if yoast seo has same ability, could use it too - just dont know with spending time with the plugin... but since others have use the plugin organizer to have yoast seo not run on the forum page, that should work too... so your call ;) guess it depends on which seo plugin you like...

Just deactivated Yoast and tried aioseo and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much!

Well, I'm back to it not working again. After using the aioseo plugin instead of Yoast SEO it worked fine at first. Then maybe an hour or so later it went back to not showing page titles for individual threads. I have now activated Yoast SEO again and the Plugin Organizer. On the main Forum page I clicked for it not to include Yoast. It did not change anything on the thread's page title. My checked items on the Components: SEO section are now:

  • Overwrite page/browser title with ours
  • Include page name in page/browser title
  • Include forum name in page/browser title
  • Include topic name in page/browser title

Could it be those settings that are messing things up?

Thanks for helping and your patience.

Are we talking about the page title above the forum or the browser title in the browser grab bar?
