sfmessages table corrupted - can I recreate it?

WP3.4.1, SP 5.1.1.

I have a corruption problem in the sfmessages table which reports "Incorrect key file for table" when I try to analyse it - I guess it is the key table that is corrupt.

I can see the source data files in /var/lib/mysql/mydb and on my backups.

My question is, how to recreate a new table.

There is only one message in the table which can be safely discarded.

If I drop the table, will SP regenerate it or will that blow things up?

If I upgrade to 5.1.3 will that regenerate it?

As far as I can ell from a quick search on this error message the most common reason is that you have run out or are near to running out of available disk space that mySQL can use. In particular - make sure you have space in your /tmp folder as mySQL qill try and create temporary tables/files in there when needed and these can be quite big.

In the meantime - as far as that specific table goes - if you are Ok with losing current data (and a repair of the table might put it right anyway) then uninstalling the PM plugin will remove the table so that when installed again it is recreated.

Ah many thanks @YS - hadn't thought of uninstalling a SP plugin!

I will try that and let you know.

I've already tried a repair table - in fact it was my weekly automatic trawl round all tables that raised the issue or I wouldn't have seen it!

From what you say, I suspect the problem occurred not because of space on the disk but a (temporary exclaim) permissions problem in the /tmp directory.   Best really if WP had individual tmp directories in the tree then I would have been able to trace it quicler.

SP threw up a Database error pop-up but I couldn't work out where it came from  and it faded away too quicklyconfused.

Well two things. Firstly uninstalling any SP plugin will remove all data including plugin specific tables. That is a rule we have in place - to leave nothing behind!

And secondly - if you see a database error message pop up then you can go to the forum admin > Toolbox > Error log to see the details of the error and where it occurred.,

Ah - tks @YS.

Good that you clean the database - far too many plugins leave all sorts of junk around when you delete them!

In the log messages, there are three entries like this which don't seem to be database reports as far as I can see.  And I know more than 3 occasions led to the popup from me alone, apart from other folk.

I am waiting for some feedback from the site owner about disabling the PM plugin but checking the permissions, none of hte users appears to be able to use PMs or has sent any so presumably as the table is screwed, SP disables permissions anyway.

Odd... Well - they are supposed to be in there :) although possibly what you saw were not actual SP messages...

Well the popup was only on the forum page so I think it was SP-related.

BTW by uninstalling you don't presumably just mean deactivate do you?

No, if you go to forum - plugiins - plugin list...  for private messaging row, you will see options, deactivate and uninstall links...

if you uninstall an SP plugin, it will remove all db entries... when you reactivate the SP plugin, it will recreate all the db tables/columns needed... but you will have lost any existing data...
