you might be confusing terms here...  groups are containers of forums...  members belong to usergroups...

are you really wanting to show the usergroups the user is not a member of?  I suspect not...

or are you wanting a user to get a 'sneak peek' of groups and forums that they cannot see because of permissions?

if the latter, try visiting our site as a guest...  you will see all the groups and forums... and you will see the topics, but you will not see any of the posts...  is that sort of what you want?

it is in fact called sneak peek...  and there are two permissions for it...  view forum lists and view forum and topic lists...  so you can let them see the forums but not the topics or posts, or you can let them see the forum and topics, but not the posts...  if you use one of those permissions, be sure the view forum permission is false...

additionally, on forum - components - login and registration, you can set up a custom message to display if they try to go further than they can see with the sneak peek... or instead, you can set a redirection to a page where you can have a message and perhaps a link to join...  which is what you see as a guest here if you try to view the posts...

so if not the latter, please explain further...
