Is it possible to show the other groups that a member is not a part of?
I have several membership levels and corresponding groups, and would like to show the other groups and topics, but not allow them access to view the postings within it … to show people what is available if they upgrade to the more advanced levels.
Is there a way to give access permissions to access their group, and see the other groups listed with the forum posted. But not be able to click and view the actual post?
you might be confusing terms here… groups are containers of forums… members belong to usergroups…
are you really wanting to show the usergroups the user is not a member of? I suspect not…
or are you wanting a user to get a ‘sneak peek’ of groups and forums that they cannot see because of permissions?
if the latter, try visiting our site as a guest… you will see all the groups and forums… and you will see the topics, but you will not see any of the posts… is that sort of what you want?
it is in fact called sneak peek… and there are two permissions for it… view forum lists and view forum and topic lists… so you can let them see the forums but not the topics or posts, or you can let them see the forum and topics, but not the posts… if you use one of those permissions, be sure the view forum permission is false…
additionally, on forum – components – login and registration, you can set up a custom message to display if they try to go further than they can see with the sneak peek… or instead, you can set a redirection to a page where you can have a message and perhaps a link to join… which is what you see as a guest here if you try to view the posts…
so if not the latter, please explain further…
