Support Forum
I upgraded to Simple Press 5 about a week ago and everything seemed fine...until I tried to add a new forum. That's when I noticed that the Simple Press admin screens weren't functioning properly. I could access the admin screens, but once on a page it wasn't possible to actually do anything (create a new forum, for example). Clicking the sub-menu links did nothing, and the Ajax activity indicator was not being displayed.
It was strange because Simple Press was working fine on my development server.
Eventually I determined the problem was related to the fact that I'd removed the Twenty Eleven theme from my production server. After uploading a fresh copy of Twenty Eleven to my themes folder everything is fine.
I'm not actually using Twenty Eleven and it would be nice if it didn't need to be installed for Simple Press to run properly. I try to keep installed themes to a minimum for security reasons.
This is not the case!
I routinely remove those wp themes and tested it again this morning... No issue with wp admin without any of the wp themes... why would there be? we certainly dont use anything from them...
Did you try this will ALL other wp plugins disabled? perhaps another one is relying on it...

OK then.
I'm just reporting what happened to me. I spent 2 days trying to work this out across a development server, a staging server, and my production server. And yes, I tried disabling all plugins.
I only solved the problem after reverting to the default theme -- which I had to install because it wasn't installed already. When I verified that Simple Press was working properly with Twenty Eleven I naturally assumed there was a problem with my theme. Until I re-activated my theme, at which point Simple Press started working.
okay, but if it was not working, what errors were you getting? anything in the error log? what was occurring? not trying to be pointed, but stopped working could mean a lot of things... happy to try to work out what is happening locally to you, but since its not readily repeatable, will need some more info...

I could access any of the SimplePress forum sub-menus fine (forums, options, components, etc.). Once on one of those screens none of the specific options worked (create new group, create new forum, etc.).
There was no error. But, as I noted in my original report, there was also no Ajax activity graphic. So, I assume it was some sort of Javascript problem.
okay, thanks...
still cannot duplicate on multiple test sites in same configuration (ie no twentyeleven)... and since we detest twentyeleven (what horrible theme makes full width the same as template with sidebar and just makes the sidebar empty space???)... we certainly dont want anything from that theme - or frankly any theme...
so no other plugins active - got it...
how about any other wp themes? can you upload any other wp theme and activate it vs current theme... still a problem? just trying to narrow it down..
and when you say you cannot create a forum, do you mean you cannot load that admin form? or it does not save?

I'm having a similar problem with the "Graphene" theme installed.
Normal users don't seem to have a problem, but as an admin, the cursor begins to tremble when I go with the mouse over a link. So I have to dubble click to access it.
But I cannot access the toolbox because the toolbox button goes away too fast when I dubble click...
(when I set theme Twenty Eleven, it works...)
If you mean USE the Twenty Eleven theme it works then there is clearly some sort of conflict with Graphene that needs to be investigated.
If you mean just having Twenty Eleven theme in your themes folder but not having it active then this makes no sense as WordPress will not load anything from Twenty Eleven - it is totally 100% ignored.
