Support Forum
Not sure what's happened, but after some investigation and disabling all other plugins, I've found that my Simple:press install is preventing the entire Wordpress backend from working. (http://www.jockrock.org/forums.....discussion - http://www.jockrock.org/forums/)
The site itself is working fine, and the forums themselves seem ok, though the first load took several minutes.
In the back end I can get in to the first general view, but trying to list, search, edit, or upload, results in just a white screen as the browser (Firefox and Safari) tries to load the next screen.
The forum, recently installed, has seemed to work fine in conjunction with everything else until maybe yesterday - this morning I was getting this 'hang' and after the usual disabling etc concluded it was just SP / WP with no other factors.
I'm sure the answer might be to do a reinstall or upgrade (5.01 for SP, 3.3.1 for WP) but the point is that it was just fine until *something* broke. And the support here has been so good I thought it'd be worth asking before going down that road!
I see that the support guys may not be available so disabling it for now seems the sensible option - not sure how much there is to see. So instead I'll ask:
anyone had this happen before, and if so... any way around it?
Cheers
Stuart
I have seen a couple of similar issues with sites running older WP versions but don't remember off hand which version they had. After updating bot SP and WP to latest versions everything worked fine. Does the WP updates page come up and show the new SP version as available? Same with WP will it update to the latest 3.4.2?
just upgraded to the newest SP, that has it seems to have alleviated the problem in that WP post editing now is ok, but it still won't let me upload any graphics and it seems to have lost track of the image library.
Was going to say that the forum was ok but in fact on the site it says "Sorry, the forum is temporarily unavailable while it is being upgraded to a new version. Click here to perform the upgrade".
Odd - I also had in the control panel a message saying the SP database needed upgraded.
I can't upgrade Wordpress just yet as there are a couple of plugins that are crucial that may not work, but I should try to get the SP upgrade sorted out first anyway!
I am not sure from this if you have actually run the upgrade (from the forum admin) or not. Are you saying you have performed the upgrade but it still says it is needed to be actioned? And if so - what version and build numbers does it report at the top of the upgrade screen?

Not at all sure what happened, but I ran it 'again' (like there was a second step in the process) and it is now at v.5.1.4.
Still seems to have some problems, mainly that the initial load of the forum itself takes a good minute, and my image upload process is just a white screen / hang, or 'No File Uploaded' (ok with SimplePress disabled).
Should SP 5.4 work with WP 3.3?
yes, as stated on the requirements page, SP works just fine with wp 3.3+
image upload process? do you mean using the SP file uploader plugin? or are you referring to the wp media uploader?

It is a little worrisome actually. I have just double-checked the WP 'edit post' page and the one thing I can say is that there are no SP javascript files loaded - which is how it should be. Yet this sort of problem would normally be associated with a scripting issue.
The only thing in SP that might interact with the edit post panel is our blog linking plugin - and that is used by a very large number of people. If you have that active it would be worth deactivating it briefly to see if that has any effect.
It would also - as perhaps a first test - be worth clearing your browser cache jjust to be sure all is being loaded fresh.

well, I basically disabled everything and put all the plugins etc back in. Seems to be working now! I am really not sure what happened there... though your point about the cache may be significant - I had a separate problem (a corrupt gif) and emptied the cache as a test for that last night. So I will have to assume that it affected what I was seeing SP and plugin-wise.
(I have been using Cloudflare at the behest of my webhost, am starting to think that any odd problems anywhere could be linked to this, and the use of caching plugins like W3TC or Supercache).
Oh, haven't updated to WP 3.4 yet, maybe I'll leave it for now as it doesn't appear to be broken at the moment!
Thanks for the help - S
Speaking strictly personally I have seen nothing but problems when using Cloudflare. And again - in my own opinion - mostly the caching plugins might just help a little here and there but I have tried many times and failed to see any real improvement. And have them trash the site until removal as well.
