Doc, Putting on his dunce cap!

I somehow missed that WordPress codeex page. 

Adding this to wp-config did the trick.

define('FORCE_SSL_ADMIN', true);
if ($_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_PROTO'] == 'https')
       $_SERVER['HTTPS']='on';
