we manually updated and 5.5.3 is working. the one problem we had was several of the hover over buttons were not working such as Watching, Subscribed, and clicking a member's name to bring up their profile.
Mr. Papa logged in and said everything was working. i block scripts in firefox via RequestPolicy and it turns out that blocking fonts.googleapis.com disables all of the above hover functionality. why do you embed google in SP and therefore our sites? does every call to google's fonts result in tracking of our site and our users? is google embedded in any other part of SP? is there an alternative to using google fonts?
thanks
why do you think simple press embeds googleapis??? I can assure you we do not... nor do we use google fonts in simple press...
in fact, wp devs strongly discourage the use of googleapis since its typically different jquery flavors than what ships with wp... google fonts is different and not frowned on, but still not simple press doing it...
you need to look elsewhere such as your wp theme or other plugin...

in fact, this:
<link rel='stylesheet' id='et-gf-open-sans-css' href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans:300italic,400italic,600italic,700italic,800italic,400,300,600,700,800&subset=latin,latin-ext' type='text/css' media='all' />
seems to be coming from your Nexus theme... at least the ID is matching the naming standard of the other head tags from the theme...
